ACT Testing FAQs

How do I apply for accommodations on the ACT?

Please follow the easy 4-step process below to apply for accommodations on the ACT. All testers must register online at www.act.org. Plan ahead – it will save you time and money later!

IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR ACCOMMODATIONS:

  1. Create an account and/or log in to the ACT website. Begin the registration process by choosing a test date.
  2. During the registration process you will be prompted to select National or Special Testing (see below if you are not sure what kind of tester you are).
  3. After you've completed the registration process, forward your confirmation email to Ms. Marconi.
  4. Sign this Release form and email a copy to Ms. Marconi. You can complete steps 2 & 3 together.

After steps 1-4 have been completed, Ms. Marconi will complete the remainder of ACT's application process online. Accommodations decisions usually take 2 to 4 weeks to process.

IF YOU HAVE TAKEN THE TEST ALREADY AND ARE APPROVED TO USE ACCOMMODATIONS:

  1. Choose a test date and register online.
  2. Forward your confirmation email to Ms. Marconi and she will "assign" the test to you.

Should I identify as a National Tester or Special Tester?

National Testers

  • 50% extended time
  • Large-block answer sheets
  • Large print test booklets

Special Testers

  • Any timing code different from standard time or 50% extended time
  • Computer for the Writing section only
  • 100% extended time
  • Multiple day testing

Check your learning profile for the list of accommodations for which you may qualify.

What is SI's new ACT Special Testing Policy?

The test dates available don't work. Can I hire my own proctor?

No. The scheduling and administering of all tests must be organized by the SSD Coordinator per the ACT's policy.

I am approved for accommodations on the ACT. Do these accommodations apply to the SAT as well?

No. The SAT is administered through the CollegeBoard, which is separate from the ACT.

Testing agencies deny accommodations for different reasons. You might receive different accommodations on the ACT versus tests administered through the CollegeBoard.

Ask Ms. Marconi if you have questions about your approved accommodations.
