Posted 03/06/2018 03:08PM

The Organization of Chinese Americans (San Mateo Chapter) holds a leadership and public speaking program for high school students in the Bay Area who identify as Asian Americans, called Speak and Lead with Pride (S&L). This 6-week program culminates in a speech contest. This year, there were about 16 participants from high schools all across the Bay Area, and three out of the four semi-finalists are SI students! They are:

  • Nick He '21
  • Ethan Liu '21
  • Samantha Lo '20

These students will participate in the final speech contest tonight in the Lane room of the Burlingame main library on 480 Primrose Rd. The time will be from 6PM to ~8:30, where all the students who participated in the program are expected to be there for a "Graduation" ceremony, where their parents are welcome to come. Mayor Brownrigg of Burlingame will be there for the welcome; three judges, including Liza Normandy, Mayor of SSF and former Head Teacher of S&L; Council-member Donna Colson of the City of Burlingame; and the initial funder of the S&L program and Silicon Valley entrepreneur. The MC for the evening will be Rod Hsiao, a trustee of the San Mateo County Office of Education. If you are available, please do come to see and support our SI students.
