SI starts chapter of National Honors Society for Dance Arts
Posted 10/09/2017 09:19AM

SI has started its own chapter of the National Honors Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) and officially welcomed its first members Oct. 6.

Mission of NHSDA

1. To recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K-12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education.

2. To foster an appreciation for dance as a true art form and one worthy of recognition and prestige.

Our first ever SI NHSDA members received their certificates last night at a ceremony and dinner for Dance Workshop families. Students qualify by earning points by taking SI dance classes, participating in Dance Workshop, or otherwise participating in or supporting the art of dance at SI or in their community. Students must also have a record of good character, motivation, and leadership in their dance classes and a 3.0 GPA to qualify for membership in NHSDA. By recognizing outstanding dance students nationwide for their artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement and providing institutions with a way to promote their dance programs, NHSDA helps to advance the field of dance education centered in the arts.
