Isabelle Weiskopf with Congresswoman Jackie Speier from CA 14th district, at her Washington, DC, office. This summer, Isabelle Weiskopf '18, was selected to be a Bank of America Student Leader for 2017. She was selected as one of five students out of 170 applicants in her area. Bank of America selects students who have a passion for serving their community. Through the Student Leader program, they connect these service-oriented high school students with nonprofit organizations and provide opportunities to learn about how they can make a difference in their local communities.
As part of this program, Isabelle received an 8-week paid internship and a paid trip to Washington DC for the BofA Student Leaders Summit. During their trip to Washington DC, the student leaders met their congressional leaders, listened to inspirational speakers, and learned how they can continue to serve both in the private and public sectors.
Isabelle's passion is serving the disenfranchised. She spent this summer working at the corporate headquarters of LifeMoves, formerly InnVision Shelter Network. LifeMoves is a non-profit organization that provides transitional housing and teaches comprehensive life skills to help clients achieve long-term self-sufficiency, stable housing, and effectively break the cycle of homelessness. During her summer, she rotated through the functional departments of LifeMoves including: finance, operations, outreach, development, and volunteer programs.
Isabelle particularly enjoyed her week in outreach because she had direct contact with the clients who are served by LifeMoves. She was inspired by the impact the organization has on these families and individuals.
During her previous summer of 2016, Isabelle volunteered as a camp counselor for the kids who were living at First Step For Families, the LifeMoves shelter in San Mateo.
After her trip to Washington, DC, Isabelle was inspired to continue to seek opportunities to help those in her community who are less fortunate, potentially as social worker or legal advocate.
