Sarah, a personal and academic counselor at SI, will speak at a conference titled "New Approaches to Understanding and Treating Mental Health in Childhood: Networks and Connections." She will join Dr. Shashank Joshi, MD at the 2018 Child X Child Health Research Institute at Standford University on April 12. They will be among a community of leaders dedicated to collaborating on advances in child health. Dr. Joshi is a psychiatrist and school mental health specialist at Stanford and will discuss how successful mental health prevention and treatment moves beyond a narrow focus on treating symptomatic individuals to a broader consideration of identification and community support of individuals at risk for mental health disorders. Ms. Merrell will discuss her role as a school counselor, assisting communities with cultural change as it relates to student mental health and wellness and speaking truth to power.
