Last September, after two masses celebrating the canonization Mass of Mother Teresa (which featured music written by Fr. Bob Fabing, S.J. '60), Bob had an audience with Pope Francis.

Fr. Fabing greeted Pope Francis by saying, "I am your brother. I am a Jesuit."

Fr. Fabing then showed Pope Francis a brochure for the Jesuit Institute for Family Life International Network, which he administers.

The Pope asked about the institute ...

and about its nature as a worldwide Jesuit work for the family.

Bob explained to Pope Francis the reach of the institute. Pope Francis replied, "This is what we need. This is what the Church needs. This is what the world needs."

Fr. Fabing then shared his music with Pope Francis, offering him a gift of his CDs.

The Pope held Bob's hand and said, "Thank you for your gift to our world and to our Church. Tell your staff thank you."

Fr. Fabing after the encounter.
