Albert Henry Modena, Jr., passed away peacefully on December 28, 2017. Al was born in San Francisco, to Albert H. Modena, Sr.† and Marie (Balletti)†. Later, he was joined by younger brother Michael. As a young boy, Al spent many days, hunting, fishing and spending time on the Modena family ranch in San Gregorio with his extended Modena family. Al attended St. Charles Elementary School, Saint Ignatius High School and the University of San Francisco. It was in San Francisco where Al met Marijane (Mallen)†, the love of his life. While their hearts were always in San Francisco, they moved to Daly City where they raised their children: Michele, Brigid, Alana, Albert III (†) and Colene. Al was further blessed with an extended family of in-laws, grand-children, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Al's lifelong career started as a teenager working alongside his father at Modena Seed Company and Al and Marijane continued "growing" the business in the '70's. Al thrived as a small business owner and enjoyed the daily interaction with customers and vendors. When Al was not at the office, he tried to enjoy life and lend a helping hand. He found joy visiting with neighbors, friends, family, lunching with classmates, playing tennis at the Olympic Club, collaborating on DIY projects, working in the garden, acquiring "collectables", traveling the world, vacationing and boating in Lake Tahoe and, of course, cooking.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 451 Eucalyptus Dr., San Francisco, CA 94132.
