April 6, 1939 - November 23, 2017

James Francis Keane, 78, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Thanksgiving morning. He was born in San Francisco on April 6, 1939 to Nellie and Jim Keane, who immigrated from Co. Cork and Co, Galway, Ireland. He attended Epiphany Grade School, St. Joseph's College, Mountain View, and was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School, class of '57. He attended The University of San Francisco and served with honor in the United States Army.

His lucky day was meeting his wife, Margaret, on St. Patrick's Day and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage.

He is survived by his three children, Katie Keane Dent (Alan), James Keane, Jr., Trish Keane Guinness (Mark), and his grandchildren, Michael Keane, Christopher, Ryan, and Julia Dent, and his brother John Keane (Sue), and nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the USA and Ireland.

James retired in 2000 after 32 years of service in the San Francisco Fire Department. He enjoyed a full life of family, world travel, and outdoor activities, especially long walks, cycling, and hiking Mt. Diablo.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Christ the King Church, Pleasant Hill, followed by a reception. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Colma.
