Herbert Claude Haskins '50

October 4, 1932 - February 18, 2017

After a vibrant and adventurous life, Herb passed away peacefully at his home in San Bruno, on February 18th. Herb was born on October 4, 1932 in San Francisco to Arthur Haskins and Genevieve Devincenzi. Herb was the youngest of five children. As a second-generation San Franciscan, he attended Saint Ignatius High School and graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1954. He married Joan Schunk in 1952. Herb was a member of the Operating Engineers local #3 for over 50 years. His love of golf was enjoyed as a 33-year member of the California Golf Club in South San Francisco, until he could no longer play his 18 holes. Herb's beloved wife Joan passed away in 1966. Herb and Joan had three sons, William Stephen, Robert Joseph (deceased 2013), and Dennis Gerard. Herb sent all 3 sons to St. Robert's parochial school and was very active in Bear's sports & the Men's Club while they attended. Herb married Lois (Balsells) shortly thereafter who had two children, John and Joanne. After 27 wonderful years of marriage Lois passed away in 1994.

Herb is survived by William Haskins (Marti), Dennis Haskins (Michelle), John Balsells (Terrie), Joanne McHugh, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and his daughter-in-law, Madeleine Haskins. Herb was blessed to share the last 20 plus years with his best friend and companion, Judy Newman. There were lots of wonderful days traveling and spending time at her homes in Calistoga and Sausalito.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 10:30 AM. at St. Robert's Church, 1380 Crystal Springs Road, San Bruno, CA, 94066. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Herb's name to the American Heart Association or the Hanna Boys Center-17000 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, CA 95476-0100.
