Counseling at SI
We are pleased to provide comprehensive counseling services to meet the personal, academic, and college counseling needs of our students. Led by Guidance Director, Kevin Asbra, our seven personal & academic counselors, four college counselors, and two wellness coordinators work together to serve our student body. We believe this team approach will best serve our students and their families by allowing us to provide a watchful eye on the personal counseling and wellness needs of each student while tending to the ever changing landscape of college counseling.
Throughout the entire student life at SI, student counseling is rooted in the Jesuit ideal of cura personalis, care for the whole person. As student advocates, counselors work in conjunction with faculty, other student support staff and administration to provide guidelines and assistance to our students (and their parents/guardians) as they navigate their high school experience.
The Counseling Department is structured so that students will have a personal/academic counselor beginning in 9th grade through 12th grade and a college counselor from the second semester of 10th grade through 12th grade.
Starting at a new school can be very exciting, but an overwhelming experience. As an incoming freshman, your Personal and Academic Counselor is here to help you navigate through all the hurdles and seek opportunities that will engage you to thrive at SI. As you progress through SI, your counselor is here to assist you in the scheduling process, and are also here to support students and families with personal and crisis needs.
College decisions and financing can be a stressful time for for students and parents. The SI College Counselor is uniquely qualified to offer guidelines, listen to concerns, answer questions and ensure that you will always have an experienced professional to offer perspective and general assistance, which can make all the difference in turning a stressful situation into a successful experience.
