Jan is in her 25th year teaching in the Physical Education Department. She earned both a B.A. in Physical Education (1982) and a California State Teaching Credential (1984) from California State University, San Francisco. In 2003, she earned a Fitness Instruction Certificate from California State University, Hayward and is currently working to earn a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from St. Mary’s College.
Jan serves as the Department Chair for the Physical Education Department and is a member of Academic Council.
Jan returns to coaching in the Girls’ Soccer Program this year as the Freshmen Assistant Coach. She previously served for 19 years as Head Coach of the Girls’ Soccer Program and Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach. During her coaching tenure her teams won 8 league championships.
Jan holds a State “D” license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and both a Regional and National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).The Saint Ignatius Athletic Department has an award in Jan’s honor, named the Jan Mullen award, given annually to a graduating senior from the Girls’ Soccer Program who best embodies the qualities of an Ignatian athlete.
In 1995, Jan was awarded the Central Coast Section Coach’s Honor Award. In 2002, she was inducted into the Soccer Old Timer’s Hall of Fame and in 2010, she was inducted into the California Soccer Association North (CSAN) Hall of Fame.
Marla started working at St. Ignatius part time in 1988 and returned full time in 1990 and has been here ever since. Marla grew up in southern California ,a graduate of U.S Grant High School in Van Nuys. Prior to working at St. Ignatius, Marla worked at Union Square Center for Rehabilitation which specialized in back rehabilitation for workers compensation injuries.
Marla holds a BA from San Francisco State in Pre-Physical Therapy (1986) and also a Masters in Education (1992). Marla enjoys working with the different sport teams and has enjoyed watching the school grow especially from all boys through the co-ed transition.
Marla is a member of NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) and CPR and First Aid certified and teaches CPR and First Aid to the coaches and students of PE.
You can find Marla everyday in the Training Room after school. Marla is here everyday and she attends all home athletic games.
Rob Hickox is in his 41st year as a member of the Department of Physical Education.. Rob has a B.A. in Physical Education and a California Teaching Credential from California State University, Chico (1977), and M.A. in Education from California State University, San Francisco (1999).
Rob serves as the Department Chair for the Physical Education Department and is a member of the Academic Council. Rob is also our Director of Intramural Sports. Rob is in his 40th year as a member of our Athletic Program and he is in his 38th year as a Head Coach. Rob was the Head Boy's Soccer Coach for 30 Years and in his 15th year as the Co-Head Coach for Track & Field. Rob was selected as the Central Coast Section Honor Coach of the Year in 1994. Rob holds a United States Soccer Federation B license and a National Diploma from National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
When Rob is not in San Francisco coaches or rooting on SI teams he is attending San Jose Earthquakes games or at the family cabin in Northern California.
Rob is married and lives in the Sunset District of San Francisco with his wife Michelle and their children Wes and Beatrice and their Golden Doddle Cazzie.
Coach Bluford is a graduate of St. Ignatius and has been teaching at SI for more than 20 years. He’s taught all levels of Physical Education and served as department chair. The majority of his instruction has been teaching the elective courses PE 210, 215 & 715. In addition to PE, Coach Bluford taught Psychology in our Social Science Department for 12 years. Currently Coach Bluford also serves as the College Athletics Advisor, where he assists student athletes who have an interest in pursuing college sports.
On the field, Coach Blu coached Football 19 years and 10 years with Track & Field program. As Head Coach of our football program from 2004-2010, Coach Blu led the Cats to 3 post- season appearances and one W.C.A.L & C.C.S. Championship.
Off the field and in the community Coach Blu has served 10 years as moderator for the Black Students Union, served as Chair of the BSU/AAAS Reunion in 2010 and 2014 and has spent time connecting communities and running a camps for youth around the bay area.
Coach Blu is a graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara and earned his Master’s Degree from San Francisco State University.
