They meet the needs of students of differing backgrounds and abilities and encouraging students to be risk-takers who learn from their mistakes. They also model and encourage an enthusiastic desire for lifelong learning.
They are also well prepared and engage in ongoing professional development. Nearly 100 hold masters degrees, and another five have earned their doctoral degrees.

Mr. Peter M. Devine
Peter has taught American Conservatory Theatre, Convent of the Sacred Heart and St. Ignatius (since 1972-73). Drama Director for 25 years, he produced & directed 100+ productions and received recognition from President Clinton, the SF Mayor and Board of Supervisors, Stanford University, the National Foundation for the Arts, and Herb Caen. Former students include James Houghton ( Julliard), Bartlett Sher (Tony Award for Light in the Piazza & South Pacific), Francis Jue (Broadway: M. Butterfly & Thoroughly Modern Millie), Jonathan Moscone ( California Shakespeare Festival), Adam Jacobs (Broadway: Lion King), Darren Criss (Glee/How to Succeed), Jenny Eng (Miss Siagon), Ken Ryan (SF Ballet, SF Opera), Brendan Quigley (Browadway: Wicked, Aida) and many other grads from Yale Drama School, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Michigan, UCLA, USC and Julliard. He has taught all levels of English, including advanced placement and honors; he currently teaches honors sophomore English, Shakespeare, and Dramatic Literature and serves as department chairperson.
Peter has 3 masters degrees: English, Counseling Psychology, and Educational Leadership, as well as Theatre Arts certification from ACT and the British-American Dramatic Conservatory.He recentlycompleted his internship for Marriage and Family therapy. He studied at USF, UC Berkeley, and Stanford. He is co-moderator for Inside SI and works with the Kairos retreat program.
