Orchestra Audition Dates for the Fall Semester
8/23 9am-12pm, 8/24 9am-12pm, 8/28 2:45-4:30pm, 8/29 2:45-4:30pm

Fall Rehearsal times
- Advanced/Varsity – Rehearsals are Monday nights 6-9pm/ Fall Concerts Nov 28, 30 & Dec 2
- Intermediate – Rehearsals are Tues/Thurs 2:45-4:15pm/ Fall Concerts Nov 28, 30, Dec 2
What to prepare:
1. A 2-octave scale of your choice, ascending and descending, played in eighth notes with the quarter note beat at 90 beats per minute on a metronome.
2. Additionally please cut and paste this google doc link to access audition sheet music for your instrument from Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony - use your SI email address & password to view the document - and see below for which measures to prepare for your instrument:

Instructions for individual instruments:
FLUTE- the first 3 lines (slow tempo in 4, listen to a recording to hear how it goes) & rehearsal numbers 10-12 (fast tempo – look for the large rehearsal numbers on page 2.
OBOE- lines 4-9 on the first page (fast tempo, listen to a recording to see how it goes)
CLARINET- measures 189 – 284 & measures 324- 350
BASSOON – beginning until big rehearsal number 3 (first part is a slow tempo in 4)
BARI SAX/ALTO SAX – click on the part that says “Bassoon/bari/alto sax” – read it like its in treble clef with 4 sharps (F# C# G# D#) instead of the key signature that’s written. Prepare lines 3-7.
FRENCH HORN – lines 2 & 3 (slow tempo in 4, listen to a recording to get the idea) & rehearsal 7-9 (fast tempo)
TRUMPET – line 1 (slow tempo in 4) & big rehearsal 13 until the end of the first movement (fast tempo)
TROMBONE – Click on the part that says “trombone & tuba” then scroll all the way down to page 9 where it says “Trombone basso e tuba”. Please prepare the beginning (starts in a slow tempo in 4) all the way to big rehearsal #8 (ends in a fast tempo, please listen to a recording to get the idea).
TUBA – Click on the part that says “trombone & tuba” then scroll all the way down to page 9 where it says “Trombone basso e tuba”. Please prepare the beginning all the way to big rehearsal #8.
PERCUSSION & PIANO - Click on the part that says “timpani” – please prepare the first two lines (slow tempo in 4) and the last two lines (fast tempo) of the first movement. You can prepare them on the piano or on a snare drum – the rhythms just have to be precise. Listen to a recording to get the idea of tempi.
VIOLIN – line 3 (Allegro Molto) to big rehearsal #5 on the second page & big rehearsal #13 to the end of the first movement
VIOLA – rehearsal #4-#7 & rehearsal #9-#10
CELLO – first four measures & page 3 line 1 (play the top part) until big rehearsal #11
BASS – 3rd line (slow tempo, in 4) & big rehearsal #5-#9 (fast tempo)
