St. Ignatius

Good Neighbor Program

While our Sunset District campus is the last of our six campuses since our founding in 1855, we have been here longer than any of our other homes. We started building in the 1960s in the sand dunes, and we opened our doors in 1969. Since then, we have worked to be a good neighbor to those who live near us, and this website is a continuation of those efforts.

Neighborhood Meeting

Hello Neighbors,

We want to let you know of an exciting new project at St. Ignatius College Preparatory that will enhance the educational experience of our students. For this project, which will be undertaken in the next few years, we will be demolishing the buildings on the northside of campus, as shown in the diagram below, and building a new facility. We do not plan on increasing enrollment or staff.

We invite you to a community Zoom meeting on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, 6-7:30 p.m., to learn more about this project. At this meeting we will discuss the goals of the project and Mark Cavagnero Associates, the architecture firm that is designing our new building, will give a brief presentation. A question and answer session will follow.

If you would like to submit questions in advance of the meeting, please use the Ask SI form. We will be accepting questions via the Zoom chat feature throughout the presentation portion of the meeting. Once the presentation is over, we will be turning off the chat feature to focus on answering the questions we have received. After the meeting, any additional questions or comments may be submitted through the Ask SI form

We look forward to sharing this exciting new project with you.

Fairmont Meeting

Hello Neighbors,

We want to let you know of a demolition project that St. Ignatius College Preparatory will be undertaking at 290 Edgewood Drive. For this project, we will be removing the abandoned Fairmont Elementary School building as outlined in white in the diagram below. Prior to demolishing the building, we will be conducting asbestos abatement. We know that construction is never pleasant for neighbors, but we are committed to minimizing the impact on the Fairmont neighborhood.

We invite you to a community Zoom meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, 6-7 p.m., to learn more about this project. At this meeting we will discuss the timeline and the abatement and demolition processes. A question and answer session will follow.

Updates
  • Abatement was successfully completed.
  • Demolition began on Dec. 28 and is moving along.
  • The contractors are aware of the noise and vibration issues that some neighbors are feeling during the demolition and are trying to mitigate these issues by pulling the building down much slower than they otherwise would.
  • On Tuesday, Jan 4, 2022, the contractors will begin off-hauling the debris. Flaggers will be moving the trucks slowly through the neighborhood.
