SI names three new trustees
SI names three new trustees

At the recent Board of Trustees Meeting, three new members were elected to the board and three members are completing their term of service to St. Ignatius.

The new members elected by the board are William (Bill) Sheedy, Kirk Syme '76 and Kevin O'Brien, S.J.

Bill is a graduate of West Virginia University, where he received his bachelor's degree, and the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his MBA. He has served on numerous boards and is executive vice president reporting directly to the CEO of Visa Inc. Among his many responsibilities at Visa is attention to and development of charitable foundations, financial literacy, financial inclusion, employee volunteering and philanthropic community relations. He and his wife have three children:: Jack '14, Emma '16 and Daniel '19.

Kirk, a native of San Francisco, graduated from SI in 1976 and received his bachelor's degree from SCU in 1980. He has an extensive background in commercial real estate and banking, most recently serving on the Board of Directors of Borel Private Bank & Trust/ Boston Private Bank in Boston. He has remained involved in Jesuit education as chair and member of the Board of Regents at SCU and member of the investment committee for SCU's Board of Trustees. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Peninsula Family Services in San Mateo.

Kevin currently serves as the Dean of Berkeley-based Jesuit School of Theology of SCU. Previously, Kevin served as the Vice President for mission and ministry at Georgetown University, where he collaborated with a staff of 30 colleagues in sharing the Catholic and Jesuit tradition of education and spirituality. In addition, Kevin is a published scholar in the area of Jesuit history and spirituality. Beyond his teaching roles, he has been engaged with the Jesuit Refugee Services in their work on the Arizona border. Before entering the Jesuits, he practiced law and taught social sciences in a Catholic high school. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Seattle University.

Completing their terms of service to the school are Joe Allanson '81, Tony Cucalon '75 and Tim Pidgeon '74.

All three have served loyally as both regents and trustees and were instrumental in guiding us through the transition to a single board. In addition, they have been invaluable in ensuring SI's sound financial footing and future.
