St. Ignatius

Welcome to SI, from Principal Michelle Nevin Levine

A Year of Insight and Novelty

Just like that, the 2022-23 school year is coming to a close! Since our last newsletter, we have been one busy BEE, working diligently at expanding our offerings for the school community and taking note on what has been effective and what provides room for growth. There were many new programs and activities this year, and I would love to take the time to shine a light on a few. Read More

With the launch of the school year, we encourage new families to visit the Parent Portal and Student Portal for news, information, and additional resources. This Welcome page will no longer be updated.

Congratulations on joining SI's Class of 2027! This page lists several tasks families must complete in order to hit the ground running when the 2023-24 school year starts in August, as well as many optional opportunities to meet other SI families and get involved with the community.

Mandatory tasks and events are marked below with a red mandatory. They are:

  • May 31 — First tuition payment due through FACTS system
  • June 1 — Part 1 of student tech training begins; iPad required
  • July 1 — San Francisco Health Form due
  • Aug. 1 — Part 2 of student tech training begins
  • Aug. 1 — Student/Parent Handbook acceptance due
  • Aug. 13 — Frosh Welcome Mass for students and parents
  • Aug. 16 — Frosh Orientation for students

You can refer to this webpage, or download and print this two-page checklist (PDF) of the essential tasks and activities for incoming students this spring and summer.

Students should check email regularly to receive important SI communications, including first assignments over the summer. For more information or questions, see the Tech Onboarding page.

MAY 31 - mandatory
First tuition payment is due through the FACTS system. Any inquiries related to tuition may be directed to Kathleen McKeon in the SI Business Office at kmckeon@siprep.org

JUNE 1
Summer reading assignments will be posted.

JUNE 1
Athletics registration opens. To participate in SI Athletics, including tryouts, you must register to play through SI’s FamilyID system. As a part of this process, you will need to upload SI’s Ticket to Play Medical Clearance Form. The Ticket to Play form requires a physical exam with a doctor. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to schedule this exam between June 1 and August 1 to maintain athletic eligibility for the entire school year. Please do not register for FamilyID until you are ready to upload your Ticket to Play form.

JUNE 1
Recommended deadline to have an iPad for school use. Students are required to bring an iPad to SI each day and will need it for SI’s Tech Trainings in June and August. If you need to purchase an iPad for school, please see the iPads at SI page for details regarding those requirements.

If you have any questions about the iPad requirements, please contact SI Director of Information Technology Jamie Pruden at jpruden@siprep.org.

JUNE 1-15 - mandatory
Part 1 of student technology onboarding begins and must be completed by June 15. This is a self-paced online introduction to Canvas, SI’s online learning platform, and will be new students’ first assignment. It should take about two hours and be completed on students’ school iPads. Students will receive an invitation to the course in their SI email inbox. Pro tip: make sure you’re comfortable logging into your SI email account before taking the course. For more information or questions, see the Tech Onboarding page.

JUNE 12-JULY 13 (VARIOUS DATES)
Frosh Foundations is an optional introductory program into SI Athletics over four weeks in June and July. There is a strength and conditioning program open to athletes of all sports, and options for sport-specific programs. These are not tryouts; rather, they are programs that introduce frosh to our culture of athletic preparation, training, movement, and navigating our weight rooms and athletic spaces. Find more details, including specific programs, dates and times, and participation fees, on the SI Athletics page. For questions, contact Athletic Director John Mulkerrins at jmulkerrins@siprep.org

JULY 1 - mandatory
San Francisco Health Form is due. This form, required by the city of San Francisco, must be completed by a health provider. Download a clean version and upload a completed copy at www.siprepadmissions.org. If you have questions, contact the Deans of Students at deansoffice@siprep.org

JULY 10
Commuter bus service registration opens. SI offers bus service to and from Marin County and San Mateo County. See SI's transportation page for bus routes and stops, the required consent form, and fees. If you have questions about bus service, you may reach out to Kathleen McKeon at kmckeon@siprep.org

JULY 17-18
Come to Cat Camp and get to know your classmates and campus through games and competitions. Class bonding activities will happen under the leadership of about 100 Big Cats, seniors in the Class of 2024. Sign up and register through the Cat Camp section of www.siprograms.com. Any questions may be directed to Assistant Principal for Student Affairs Jeff Glosser at jglosser@siprep.org.

AUG. 1 - mandatory
Deadline for submitting Student/Parent Handbook acceptance. All frosh families will receive an email with the handbook and a link to the acceptance form. If you have questions, contact the deans of students at deansoffice@siprep.org

AUG. 1
Frosh student schedules will be posted to PowerSchool. Students will learn how to log in as part of their technology onboarding, and parents will receive an email with instructions on how they can log in to view their students' records. For questions, contact Assistant Principal for Academics Danielle Devencenzi at ddevencenzi@siprep.org

AUG. 1
SI's online bookstore opens. You may buy any required textbooks through the online bookstore.

AUG. 1 - mandatory
Part 2 of student technology onboarding begins and must be completed by Aug. 15. This self-paced course walks students through using their iPads as effective academic tools and introduces the apps they will use most frequently at SI. It should take about two hours and be completed on the students’ school iPads. Students will receive a course invitation in their SI email inboxes. For more information or questions, see the Tech Onboarding page.

AUG 4
Tryouts for most fall sports begin. Different teams will have different schedules, so refer to the Athletics home page for specifics and contact information for coaches.

AUG. 7-11
Pep Band Camp will be Aug. 7-11, running from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. Also, anyone who can read music and wants to be in the band in the fall can sign up for free group lessons on a brass instrument of their choice (trumpet, trombone, sousaphone, mellophone) this summer! For details, contact Band Director Galen Green at ggreen@siprep.org

AUG. 13 - mandatory
Frosh Welcome Mass held on campus. This gathering is mandatory for students and parents. In the morning, we will gather together as a class and community to celebrate Mass in McCullough Gymnasium, after which Principal Michelle Nevin Levine and President Edward A. Reese, S.J., will deliver brief remarks. The program will conclude before mid-day.

SI is in a residential neighborhood, so we expect nearby parking to be extremely limited. Please consider taking public transportation, ridesharing, or walking to campus if you are able.

AUG. 15
San Francisco Giants Game vs. Tampa Bay Rays, 6:45 p.m. at Oracle Park. Join your Big Cats for an evening at the ballpark and cheer the Giants on to victory! Sign up and register through www.siprograms.com.

AUG. 16 - mandatory
Frosh Orientation begins in the morning on SI's campus. This is mandatory for all frosh students. Meet the administration, take school pictures, see where each of your classrooms are located for the first day of school, and more.

AUG. 18
First day of school! Traditionally, students dress in red and blue SI pride gear, and returning students gather in front of school on 37th Ave. for a celebratory welcome with music and dancing. Classes begin at 9 a.m.

Please familiarize yourself with all your options for getting to and from SI. Our school is in a residential neighborhood, so we encourage all who are able to consider walking, taking public transportation, or bicycling. For those arriving in cars, please follow SI's parking rules and drop-off and pickup procedures.

OTHER EVENTS AFTER THE START OF SCHOOL
Keep an eye out for announcements about when the following events will be held:

  • The Performing Arts Department holds a kickoff meeting to announce the fall play and audition times for drama, music, and dance programs. That information, and what will be required of auditioning students, will be posted on the auditions web page.
  • SI's Club Fair is an opportunity for students to browse many different co-curricular opportunities at once, from clubs such as Mock Trial, Robotics, Green Team, and Arrupe Council, to affinity groups such as the Black Student Union, Asian Student Coalition, and Association of Latin American Students.
  • All first-year students at SI will be asked to go on Frosh Retreat, with dates assigned throughout the year. Recognizing our partnership with parents in the education and formation of our students, our expectation is that at least one parent (or an adult who is a close friend or family member) will be with us at SI the evening of their student's retreat. See more details on the Campus Ministry retreats page, and if you have any questions, contact Luke Hansen at lhansen@siprep.org.
