Announcements

Frosh Orientation

Parent and Frosh Orientation will be held in person on SI's campus on Sunday, Aug. 14. The student program will run from 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m. See the agenda and full schedule for the student program here, including expectations for dress.

The parent program will run from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., though parents are welcome to stay on campus until the end of the student program and enjoy a provided lunch on Columbus Piazza. Additionally, the African American and Latino Parents Association and SI Parents Asian Club will hold meetings at 1 p.m. AALPA will meet in the Alfred Wilsey Library and SIPAC will meet in the Doris Duke Wall Choral Room.

Finally, SI is in a residential neighborhood, so we expect nearby parking to be extremely limited. Please consider taking public transportation, ridesharing, or walking to campus if you are able.

Important Dates for the 2022-23 School Year

As we all look forward to a wonderful school year, make sure to look at SI's calendar and view the Important Dates 2022-23 tab for the list of school holidays, breaks, and other events. In particular, note final exam dates in December 2022 and May 2023, as students are not permitted to miss final exams unless they are sick and have a doctor's note.

Clubs

Take a look at SI's clubs page, where you can learn about affinity groups such as the Asian Student Coalition, Association of Latin American Students, and Black Student Union, and clubs such as Green Team, the InsideSI student newspaper, MedCats, Mock Trial, On Air with SI, Robotics Club, SITV, and many more. Most clubs have contacts listed if you wish to get more information.

MySchoolBucks

SI uses MySchoolBucks as the payment system students can use to make purchases throughout campus — in the Commons, Snack Shack, Bookstore, Prep Shop, and other venues. Learn more about signing up for MySchoolBucks and managing your account on SI's MySchoolBucks page. If you have any questions, you may contact Kerryn Schwarz at kschwarz@siprep.org.

Student/Parent Handbook

All frosh families should have received an email with the link to this year's Student/Parent Handbook and the link to the acceptance acknowledgement form. If you have not received that message, please contact the Deans' Office at deansoffice@siprep.org.

Final Course Placements in PowerSchool

Keep an eye out for the email frosh families are scheduled to receive on Aug. 1 with instructions for how parents may log in to PowerSchool. There, you will see students' course placements and in the future will see grades and attendance information. Students will learn how to log in to PowerSchool as part of their technology onboarding.

Morning and Afternoon Drop-off and Pickup Procedures

For families driving students to and from SI, the school has implemented drop-off and pickup procedures on 37th Ave. See the school traffic page for details.

Security Contact

Director of Security Marybeth McFarland and the security guard team are available to support the community and can help students and families 24/7/365. Please add the security mobile phone number, 415-624-4285, to parents', guardians', and your student's phones. This can come in handy if you need access when the school is closed, such as picking up a book left behind over a weekend, or any other security need at or near SI.

Campus Ministry and Frosh Retreat

Campus Ministry welcomes all students to participate in its programs and prayer spaces, regardless of their faith tradition. You can find more information about how we build community through liturgies, prayer services, and other activities on our main Ministry page.

All first-year students at SI will be asked to go on Frosh Retreat, with dates assigned throughout the year. Recognizing our partnership with parents in the education and formation of our students, our expectation is that at least one parent (or an adult who is a close friend or family member) will be with us at SI the evening of their student's retreat. See more details on our retreats page, and if you have any questions, contact Luke Hansen at lhansen@siprep.org.

Magis Program First-Year Retreat

Students and families interested in SI's Magis High School Program, you are invited to the Magis First-Year Retreat, on Friday, Aug. 12, on SI's campus. There, you will build community with other families and SI staff, learn about the Magis Program, and more. Register for the retreat by Aug. 8 through this Google form. If you have any questions, email Director of Community Engagement and Belonging Maricel Hernandez at mhernandez@siprep.org.

Wellness Department

We recognize that students are faced with complex life circumstances which impact their overall health and well-being, so we empower students to cultivate a state of life-long health in mind, body, and spirit through a variety of school-based support services. Wellness staff is available for informal student check-ins, brief individual counseling, group counseling, consultation on all health and wellness-related issues, crisis intervention whenever necessary, and off-campus referral coordination.

The SI Wellness team is available to you and your teen. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. See the Wellness Department site for contact information, announcements, articles, and tools.

iPad Training

All SI students are required to have an iPad. To learn how to use important educational apps, they must complete a self-directed training course on the iPad they will use for school. On Aug. 1, new assignments appeared in the Canvas course students began in June. Those assignments are due Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. For questions, email SI_librarians@siprep.org.

Performing Arts Auditions

Interested in theater, music, or dance performance? See the Performing Arts Auditions page for information about when auditions will be held and who to contact if you have any questions. All students interested in the performing arts are welcome to attend the kick-off meeting on Aug. 19, at 2 p.m., in Bannan Theater.

Athletics Tryouts and Registration

Fall sports' tryout information has been posted to the Athletics home page, with most tryouts beginning Aug. 8. For more information and any questions, you may find coaches' email addresses on our coaches contact doc. To participate in SI Athletics, including tryouts, you must register to play through SI’s FamilyID system. We strongly encourage you to schedule this exam between June 1 and Aug. 1 to maintain athletic eligibility for the entire school year. The FamilyID website opened for registration on June 1. Please do not register until you are ready to upload your ticket to play.

The visual arts program at SI includes classes on photography, sculpture, studio art, art and architecture, art and nature, sacred symbols, and multimedia design. You can see some recent examples of student work in several slideshows shared with our community and read more about our visual and performing arts programs in the Arts section of our website.

Community Service

All SI students are required to complete 75 hours of community service between the first day of frosh year and the first day of senior year. The Office of Community Service and Social Justice will introduce the community service requirements during the first semester and assist students in connecting with local non-profit organizations.

Visit the Community Service section of our website, check out the Class of 2026 Service Requirement page, or stop by our office any time. We are located in the Student Center next to the Prep Shop. Tech Orientation - Action Required

We want to give the 9th graders a head start with the tech tools they’ll be using in the fall. SI uses a Learning Management System called Canvas to deliver course content and each student should be familiar with this tool. Rising 9th graders are expected to take care of a few items prior to using the technology that is standard to an academic day at SI - steps to complete and actions required are outlined here.
