Required for all 8th Grade Applicants
Entrance Examination - Details
Saturday, December 4, 2021
8:30 am to 12:30 pm
(Please bring two #2 pencils)
Note: If an applicant is applying to multiple schools the applicant should take the HSPT at the high school that offers the earliest date, so all their potential high schools get the results in a timely manner for their process and timeline. The Admissions Office needs to receive the HSPT scores no later than January 11, 2022 or the admissions process will be held up for that applicant.
Please be assured that SI will accommodate all requests from applicants to St. Ignatius College Preparatory for the December 4, 2021 testing date at SI. The applicant indicates the exam location and date on the Entrance Exam Reservation Form included as part of the online application to St. Ignatius College Preparatory. Applicants choosing to take the exam at another Catholic High School (where they have submitted an application) are responsible for making a reservation with that high school.
All 8th grade applicants must take the entrance exam. The entrance exam will be administered at St. Ignatius College Preparatory on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students should bring two number 2 pencils with them to the exam. We will provide scratch paper. Calculators are not allowed on the exam. Students should report to the front of the main school building by 8:30 a.m. Room assignments will be posted at that time. No ticket is required for admittance.
The exam is the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and is published by the Scholastic Testing Service (STS). The exam consists of individual tests covering verbal ability, quantitative ability, reading comprehension, vocabulary, language arts, and mathematics.
Applicants applying to more than one Catholic high school in the S.F. Archdiocese can only take the exam once. Scores will be sent to each high school the student specifies on the exam day. The entrance exam may be taken at any Catholic Secondary School in the San Francisco Archdiocese that administers the exam where the student has filed an application. The exam is offered by other Catholic High Schools on Saturday, December 4, 2021 and on various other dates. It is the applicant's responsibility to check with individual schools for testing dates and school specific details. The exam site chosen by the applicant has no bearing on the admissions decision.
The Entrance Exam (HSPT) results will be available to applicants who take the exam at SI in April 2022. For applicants who test at SI, it is our intention to email the applicant's parent(s) the HSPT results in early April 2022.
Applicants with documented learning disabilities may be eligible for extended time testing at SI on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021. Please download the documentation requirements and the application for extended time testing. All documentation must be received by Nov. 15, 2021.
