St. Ignatius

Required for all 8th GRADE APPLICANTS

Fall 2020

The HSPT will be taken online and remotely this year.  All high schools in the San Francisco Archdiocese will be hosting virtual events/testing rather than hosting applicants on their campuses.  The health and safety of our visitors, their families and the SI community is our priority.

We will share details for this new online HSPT format with you as we get closer to the December 5 date.  We are energized to embrace this new HSPT format alongside you!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) about the online remote format for the HSPT.

For applicants who test at SI:  The Entrance Exam (HSPT) results will be available to applicants in April 2021.  It is our intention to email the applicant's parent(s) the HSPT results in early April 2021.

Can you send my HSPT results to another High School?  SI will only be sharing test results with the other Catholic high schools that are also offering the HSPT.  Those high schools can contact us directly and we will share the HSPT results with them, as we are all participating as part of a HSPT testing cooperative.  We realize many high schools have decided not to require standardized testing for their application process this year and have indicated that they will accept the HSPT results; however, we will not be providing HSPT results to schools that are not participating in the HSPT cooperative and offering the HSPT.

Please be assured that SI will accommodate all requests from applicants to St. Ignatius College Preparatory for the December 5, 2020 testing date through SI. The applicant indicates the exam location and date on the Entrance Exam Reservation Form included as part of the online application to St. Ignatius College Preparatory. Applicants choosing to take the exam through another Catholic High School (where they have submitted an application) are responsible for making a reservation with that high school.

All 8th grade applicants must take the entrance exam. The entrance exam will be administered through St. Ignatius College Preparatory on Saturday, December 5, 2020, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Calculators are not allowed on the exam.

The exam is the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and is published by the Scholastic Testing Service (STS). The exam consists of individual tests covering verbal ability, quantitative ability, reading comprehension, vocabulary, language arts, and mathematics.

Applicants applying to more than one Catholic high school in the S.F. Archdiocese can only take the exam once. Scores will be sent to each high school the student specifies on the exam day. The entrance exam may be taken through any Catholic Secondary School in the San Francisco Archdiocese that administers the exam where the student has filed an application. The exam is offered by other Catholic High Schools on Saturday, December 5, 2020 and on various other dates. It is the applicant's responsibility to check with individual schools for testing dates and school specific details. The remote exam site chosen by the applicant has no bearing on the admissions decision.

Note:  Regardless of high school you take the exam through, we encourage all applicants to take the HSPT on or before December 12, 2020, so we receive the results in a timely manner to review your admissions file..

Applicants with documented learning disabilities may be eligible for extended time testing through SI on Saturday, December 5, 2020.  Extended time testing will end at 1:30 pm.  Please download the documentation requirements and the application for extended time testing. All documentation must be received by November 13, 2020.
