I’m Andrew Monterola. I was born in Los Angeles, California. I’m the child of a Filipino immigrant who was part of the US Navy and a Peruvian immigrant. Since my dad was part of the Navy, I never grew up in one house. I moved many times when I was younger. Growing up I always strived to be perfect in everything I did. I worked so hard because I was scared of people being disappointed in me. This fear of disappointment has pushed me to work extremely hard. When I heard of the Fr. Sauer Academy I saw this as an opportunity to make my family proud. So I was very grateful for this opportunity. Before I heard of FSA I was going to Junipero Serra, where Yvonne, a past FSA student who is now a freshman at SI, went. Although I love that school because I have so many memories there, it wasn’t a school that challenged me like Fr. Sauer did.
I don’t really know what I want to be. Growing up, I wanted to be many different things: a firefighter, soldier, or policeman. Now I don’t really want to have a specific job. My main goals in life is to be someone who can make people smile, make my family proud, and be able to support my family financially. I want to be able to make someone’s day a little better. I want to be able to make my family proud and financially stable because all my life they have taken care of me and this is my way of repaying them.
