Welcoming the President

The St. Ignatius Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to make Joseph A. Vollert the school's 32nd president. Mr. Vollert, a 1984 graduate of St. Ignatius, has worked at the school for more than 35 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. Most recently, he was vice president for advancement and had been serving as acting president since August, following the death of the prior president, Edward A. Reese, S.J.
In a statement, Board of Trustees Chair Niall McCarthy said, "Our community has seen Joe thrive in the position of acting president this school semester. The feedback from the SI community on Joe’s performance in that role has been uniformly positive. Joe has an unmatched dedication to the school, a keen intellect, boundless energy, and is constantly seeking to enhance the students' experience at S.I. In short, he is undoubtedly the right person for the job."
Jesuits West Provincial Fr. Sean Carroll, S.J., applauded the board’s action and stated, “I am grateful to Joe Vollert for his faithful service to S.I. over many years. I look forward to partnering with Joe as he leads S.I. into the next chapter of its history as its president, all for the greater glory of God.”
Mr. Vollert said, “I am humbled and honored to lead San Francisco’s Jesuit College Preparatory, which has served the city since 1855 and whose students and alumni strive to serve our world for the greater good. In a world where change is the norm, we expect our students to have a deep sense of who they are, becoming leaders who freely share their gifts forged by the interpersonal relationship with their teachers, coaches, and moderators.”
