Equity & Inclusion

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts at SI are an ongoing and critical component of our educational philosophy.

We strive to be a just, inclusive, and Catholic, Ignatian community where all students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni feel seen, heard, valued, and loved, and experience full acceptance.

To build a loving community grounded in our faith that does justice, we must continuously examine and commit to policies, procedures, and practices that are equitable and inclusive. We strive to respond to the Jesuit appeal to work for social justice, holding one another to these highest ideals with compassion, kindness, courage, and grace.

Strategic Plan Overview

In the promoting of a culture of encounter, as described by Pope Francis, it asserts that “we as a people should be passionate about meeting others, seeking points of contact, building bridges, and planning a project that includes everyone.”

DEIB  not only an aspirational approach to belonging, but a practical pathway towards further demonstrating our commitment to social justice. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work supports an adaptive institutional posture. The elements of an adaptive culture (observe, interpret, and intervene) are similar to the Jesuit concept of contemplatives in action. The process of stopping and reflecting to interpret and create meaningful action that allows for us to have discernment.
