DEIB Alignment Statement
Our Vision For and Commitment To A Diverse, Equitable, Inclusive, and Loving Community
For St. Ignatius College Preparatory to move towards our vision, there must be a clarity of mission that is widely understood and collectively shared among all members of our community. It is in this spirit that we illuminate our mission and values as a Catholic, Ignatian educational institution, and how they directly align to the work and vision of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at St. Ignatius College Preparatory.

“Today our prime educational objective must be to form [people] for and with others…we have work ahead of us. We must help each other to repair this lack in us, and above all make sure that in future the education imparted in Jesuit schools will be equal to the demands of justice in the world.”
-Pedro Arrupe, Men for Others (1973)
Education in the Catholic, Ignatian tradition is a call to human excellence and justice. St. Ignatius College Preparatory is more than merely a college preparatory high school. At St. Ignatius, our approach to education is rooted in cura personalis, a Latin phrase meaning “care for the whole person.” Thus, we are committed to each individual’s mental and physical health, spiritual growth, emotional well-being, and imagination. All members of our community are challenged to develop their conscience, becoming agents of change who lovingly contribute to the flourishing of our human community and world.
We are guided by the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus. With a prayerful attitude and a discerning heart, we are called to be with and for others: “walking with the poor, the outcasts of the world, and those whose dignity has been violated, in the mission of reconciliation and justice.” Drawing from the principles of Catholic Social Teaching across the curriculum, co-curricular programs, and school-wide initiatives, we are able to embody our mission: journeying with youth, forming leaders of conscience committed to responding courageously to the challenges and opportunities of our time.
St. Ignatius College Preparatory strives to be a just, inclusive, and Catholic, Ignatian community where all students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni feel seen, heard, valued, and loved and experience full acceptance.
We commit to cultivating a community of belonging. We respect and protect the dignity of all members of our community--creating conditions where all are represented, safe, empowered, supported, and affirmed. We acknowledge our room to grow as individuals and as an organization. Thus, to build a loving community grounded in our faith that does justice, we must continuously examine and commit to policies, procedures, and practices that are equitable and inclusive. We strive to respond to the Jesuit appeal to work for social justice, holding one another to these highest ideals with compassion, kindness, courage, and grace.
We see our determination to offer diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging not as a destination to be reached, but a continuous, life-long journey together. “And so, with Ignatius of Loyola as our guide, let us open our hearts to Divine love, examining our hearts for anything that stands in the way of justice.” -Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, The Spiritual Work of Racial Justice
