Wellness Gap Survey – How to Read the Results

Survey items are ordered according to the relative distance between the "gap" between what students perceive is important (and the school should value) and what the school actually provides in a particular area or domain of wellness.

For example, the first item in the gap survey pertains to "opportunities to get physical exercise." Students surveyed actually believed that the school does a slightly better job (4.37) than students would expect in this area (4.28).

Conversely, the last item on the results sheet – "programs that promote stress management" – shows that students surveyed believed that the school should provide stress management programs or activities (4.26), but they also believe that the school doesn't necessarily provide stress management programs and activities to the extent that it should (3.30).

In sum, the items at the top of the list represent the areas within these wellness domains in which students believe we do fairly a good job, while the items at or near the bottom of the list represent areas in which students believe there's a "gap" between what we actually do and what we should do.
