General Info: Campers should report to their specific sports camp early on the first day of camp to check in and receive a T-shirt. Please bring a healthy snack and drink each day for breaks. We advise a hat and sunscreen for the outdoor camps.
A.M. Camp: Morning Camp: Ages 6 - 12
What: Olympics 2008 will give students the opportunity to experience this international event right here in San Francisco! Campers will try their hand at different Olympic sporting events such as basketball, soccer, track and field to name a few. They will also learn about this year’s Olympic venues in China, and past Olympics Games and their Cultures. Campers will have the opportunity to make an art and crafts project each week. There will be three different activities per day. In addition, campers will go on a weekly field trip to such locations as the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, Fort Point & the Golden Gate Bridge, Yerba Buena Ice-skating, Bowling, Golfing, Mission Cliffs and/or the Exploratorium. Details will be provided at the start of each week's session. All campers are grouped according to age.
Where: First day: Parents must sign-in their children at the South Gym (McCullough Gym). Parents must sign-in their children each day between 8:45 and 9:00 in the South Gym. If your child is signed up for an afternoon camp he or she will be supervised during lunch (12:00 to 12:45) and then escorted to their next camp. Early drop off is available; information will be given out on the first day of camp. Camp begins at 9:00 with a camp wide warm-up. All campers must be signed-out each day starting at 12:00 noon.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers are asked to bring enough nutritious snacks for the 2 breaks they will have during the day. Vending machines are available, so you may want to send your child with money. Campers should dress for physical activity, tennis shoes are required.
A.M. Camp: Training for the High School Athlete: Boys and Girls entering 9th grade in fall 2008
What: The two 2-week sessions are designed to physically prepare promising high school athletes for upcoming seasons. Instruction and activities geared for training the athlete in various aspects of strength and conditioning. Activities include: free weights, machines, Olympic lifting techniques, sprint techniques, stretching variations, and basic plyometrics. The two 2 week sessions can also be taken as a four week continuous camp.
Where: SI Weight Room located next to the upper field underneath the gym.
Clothing & Equipment: Athletic shoes, loose fitting sweats and/or shorts, a T-shirt and/or sweat shirt. Camp is conducted both inside and outside. Sunscreen is advised.
What: Instruction will emphasize hitting, bunting, base running, pitching, and defensive play at all positions.
Where: Report to the bleachers near the football field on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers will receive a baseball cap but need to wear a shirt/sweatshirt, baseball pants or sweats, baseball or other athletic shoes, & glove. Bats will be available for use during the day, but campers might feel more comfortable with their own bat. Make sure that any personal gear is clearly marked with name or initials. Don't bring baseballs; we'll have plenty available.
What: Sessions combine fundamental stations, fundamental demonstrations, league play, 3 on 3 blacktop tournament contests, and lectures on time management and how to be a team player.
Where: Come to the main gym on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: All campers must have basketball shoes, shorts, and socks. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt.
What: All day (8 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) one-week camp for members of the Class of 2012. Opportunity to meet classmates, get to know the campus, and play sports. Lunch is provided every day. Friday afternoon social event.
Where: Meet in the foyer of the main gym on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: Dress for two sports camps per day. Bring a large shirt or T-shirt to use during the studio art session of the camp. Campers will receive a Cat Camp 2012 sweatshirt.
What: Designed to help athletes of all levels prepare for the fall Cross Country season. Runners will be grouped by fitness and ability level. Classroom instruction will supplement the afternoon workouts.
Where: On the first day you will meet in the bleachers on the football field. On subsequent days you will meet on 39th Ave. behind the west bleachers in order to board the SI school bus. Each day of running will feature a different location: various locations in Golden Gate Park, Crissy Field, and Land's End. The campers will board the SI school bus and travel to one of these destinations in order to vary running venues. Please complete and sign the attached Cross Country Camp Summer Venues Permission Slip (Rev. 05/25/08) and bring it with you to the first day of camp. Thank you!
Clothing & Equipment: Every runner should have good running shoes, socks, shorts, T-shirt, and sweats. Bring a water bottle and snack every day.
What: A skill-oriented camp covering the basic techniques of field hockey.
Where: Meet at the bleachers by the football field on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers may wear tennis shoes or cleats (soccer cleats are ok; baseball spikes are not). Please wear shorts or sweats. Bring a hockey stick if you have one, if not, one will be loaned to you.
What: Instruction will cover the fundamentals of football including throwing, kicking, tackling, catching, blocking, proper stances, and defensive covering. All blocking and tackling are done with padded bags to concentrate on form. There is no player-to-player contact.
Where: Meet in the bleachers in front of the press box on the first day.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers may wear tennis shoes or cleats (soccer cleats are ok; baseball spikes are not). Please wear shorts or sweats.
What: A skill-oriented camp covering the basic techniques of lacrosse.
Where: Meet at the bleachers by the football field on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers may wear tennis shoes or cleats (soccer cleats are ok; baseball spikes are not). Please wear shorts or sweats. Please bring a lacrosse stick. SI has a limited number of loaner lacrosse sticks.
What: A skill-oriented camp covering the basic techniques of soccer.
Where: Meet at the SI press box, located in the bleachers by the athletic field.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers must bring their own soccer ball. The ball size is very important: under age 8 (size 3), under 12 (size 4), under 16 (size 5).
What: Softball camp will focus on developing individual skills and techniques in such areas as: Throwing - Hitting - Fielding. Daily instruction will provide proper technique and skills progression to help all campers improve their skills.
Where: Campers should meet on the upper practice field on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: Campers will need to have their own glove, a small snack and water each day.
What: Instruction and activities geared for training the athlete in various aspects of strength and conditioning. This camp teaches stretching variations, agilities, balance and coordination drills, Olympic lifting techniques, speed training, and basic plyometrics. Campers will also work with free weights and weight machines.
Where: SI Weight Room located next to the upper field underneath the gym.
Clothing & Equipment: Athletic shoes, loose fitting sweats and/or shorts, a T-shirt and/or sweat shirt. Camp is conducted both inside and outside.
What: Instruction and drills on the fundamental strokes including forehand, backhand, volleys and serves. Campers will have the opportunity to play both single and double sets, plus games.
Where: SI tennis courts above the parking lot (located at the corner of 37th Avenue & Rivera)
Clothing & Equipment: Wear tennis shoes and shorts (weather permitting). Campers must bring a tennis racket.
What: Campers will experience all the track and field events from the 100 meter dash to the mile and from the high jump to the discus throw. Campers will compete in a track meet at the end of the week.
Where: Meet in the bleachers by the track and football field.
Clothing & Equipment: Running shoes and shorts or sweats.
What: Instruction & drills focus on the fundamental skills of passing, setting, hitting, serving, blocking and digging. A major portion of the camp will be playing games.
Where: Meet in the gym on the first day of camp.
Clothing & Equipment: Wear athletic shoes (volleyball shoes, cross trainers or court shoes) and shorts with a comfortable T-shirt. Kneepads are recommended.
