• Advanced Algebra: Students will learn quadratic functions, radical equations, logarithms, solving systems of linear equations, and sequences and series. Math placement can be adjusted during the first week of summer school if necessary.
• Geometry: In this class, students will explore the relationships of plane figures using traditional Euclidean postulates and theorems. Conventional symbols and vocabulary will be used to describe geometric relationships of objects in the real world. Some hands-on activities will be included. Some knowledge of algebra is recommended for students taking this class.
• English for Success: Students will polish their skills for the English classroom before high school begins. The course will cover all the essentials: vocabulary building, basic grammar skills, paragraph writing, short story and poetry analysis. The students will also be reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.
• Speech: This is a beginning course designed to give students an introduction to public speaking. Each week will be devoted to a different type of speech beginning with an overview of speech preparation and presentation. In class, the students will present a short speech each week. In addition, they will learn how to research a topic and prepare a final culminating presentation.
• Computer & Internet Skills 1: (This optional 8-8:50 a.m. course can be added for an additional cost of $200.00)
This beginners course covers keyboarding and a basic introduction to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
