AP Program--English
The SI English Department consistently performs at a high level on all national tests. In terms of AP, the Department has a two-fold philosophy which dovetails with the two different English Exams.
English Language
SI does not teach an AP English Language course, but the department believes that the general quality of all our students' ability is well measured by this exam. All Juniors whose PSAT score indicates a 75% likelihood of success are encourage to take the exam. The goal is:
- 35% of the Junior class pass the exam.

English Literature
The Literature course is a senior elective. Because all literature students benefit from high-quality discussion, the department prefers not to remove all the good students from the other classes. Therefore, the philosophy regarding this exam is more restrictive than the Language exam. The goal for the English Lit exam is:
