Five-Year Tenure Plan or a present or future assignment at the school.
• To fulfill a commission assigned by the Principal and President
involving the planning and/or implementation of a school program.
• To take college or university course work and to attend workshops.

SECTION II: APPLICATION PROCEDURE & ELIGIBILITY
1. Any full-time faculty member who has completed ten (10) years of service at SI may apply for the sabbatical.
2. Candidates must submit a sabbatical leave application to the Professional Development Director by February 26, 2010. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to meet with the Professional Development Director before November 30, 2009.
SECTION III: CONDITIONS OF SABBATICAL LEAVE
1. Sabbatical leave is for one full year at full pay, one semester of which should be on-campus and one of which may be off-campus.
2. A faculty member on sabbatical leave may not accept a salary, grant, or stipend from another institution, organization, or individual unless said remuneration has been approved by the President prior to leave. In the case where an employee during leave receives unapproved compensation, that individual will forfeit his/her sabbatical leave salary.
3. Sabbaticals are not given to faculty who are within three (3) years of the normal age of retirement (65 years of age) unless the principal has assigned that person to a specific project requested by the school administration.
4. Any faculty member granted a sabbatical leave will be required to sign a statement that he/she will return to SI for at least three years following the completion of the sabbatical year. In the event that this person does not meet this requirement, the principal has the option of enforcing the monetary consequences in the Sabbatical contract.
SECTION IV: GUIDELINES FOR GRANTING THE SABBATICAL
1. The sabbatical must meet the criteria outlined in the Purpose Section of this application.
2. The Professional Development Committee will consider the following in judging the merits of the sabbatical proposal:

• The effect of the project on the faculty outcomes as outlined in our profile of the ideal Ignatian educator as described in the Preamble of the St. Ignatius Professional Development Program.
• The effect of the project on the spiritual and Ignatian character of the school community.
• The effect of the project on the professional, personal, and spiritual growth of the applicant.
3. In the case of two applications judged to meet all of the criteria for the sabbatical equally, the Professional Development Committee will recommend to the Principal that the applicant with the greater number of years of service at St. Ignatius be awarded the sabbatical.
SECTION V: APPLICATION REVIEW AND APPROVAL
1. Sabbatical applications should be submitted to the Professional Development Director by February 27, 2009. He will review them with the Assistant Principal for Academics and the candidates’ department chairpersons.
2. Applications meeting all requirements will be reviewed separately by the Professional Development Committee according to the criteria in Section IV, with recommendations forwarded to the Principal.
3. The Principal will review the application and the recommendations from the department chair and the Professional Development Committee and present his recommendation to the President for final decision.
4. Final approval is given, in writing, by the President. Likewise, disapproval for stated cause is given, in writing, by the President. The applicant will receive the President’s response no later than April 8, 2009.
SECTION VI: SABBATICAL FINAL REPORT
Two reports must be issued jointly to the Principal and the Professional Development Director. The first report will be a mid-sabbatical progress report completed by the end of the first semester.
