ACTING 1A
Course Description: In Acting 1A we will study the craft and discipline of acting in theatre. To that end, students will develop acting skills and techniques through theater games, improvisations, movement research, and contemporary monologues from professionally produced plays, culminating in class performances. Students will be introduced to major historical periods of theatre and then will select one of these historical periods to present to the class. Students will also attend a professional theatre production and write a critical review. By the end of this course, students will have developed an appreciation for the art of theatre and canon of dramatic literature while exploring a variety of approaches to actor training. |

ACTING 1B
Course Description: In Advanced Acting 1B we will delve deeper into the craft and discipline of acting. While building on the principles and techniques learned in Acting 1A: Scene Study, students will participate in group warm-ups (vocal and physical), theatre games, improvisations, and advanced theatre exercises requiring a higher skill level. While keeping a journal for this class, students will continue to explore different historical theatre movements with special focus given to the 19th and 20th century. Other projects include an advanced movement research (the craft of building a theatre piece beginning with everyday movement), and either acting in or directing scenes from professionally produced plays. Students will have the opportunity to work with a visiting guest artist from the professional theatre community. Students will also attend a professional theatre production and write a critical review. |

ACTING 1C: FALL PLAY
Course Description: In Advanced Acting 1C students will have the oppertunity to delve deeper into the craft and discipline of acting. While building on the principles and techniques learned in Acting 1A and Acting 1B by working on a full length production from a professionally produed play. Students will be hands on throughout the entire rehearsal process starting with the read through and character developement to the final technical and dress rehearsals. This class culminates in an actual performance in front of a live audience. |

ACTING 1D: SPRING MUSICAL
Course Description: In Advanced Acting 1D students will have the oppertunity to delve deeper into the craft and discipline of acting. While building on the principles and techniques learned in Acting 1A and Acting 1B by working on a full length production from a professionally produed musical. Students will be hands on throughout the entire rehearsal process starting with the read through and character developement, music and dance rehearasls to the final technical and dress rehearsals. This class culminates in an actual performance in front of a live audience. |
