Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 7, our JV and Varsity football teams take on the Lancers of St. Francis on J.B. Murphy Field at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
We invite you to come out and support the Cats in the stands. Cheer together and support the teams as they work hard to represent our SI community with their competitive spirit on the field. Your presence is felt by OUR players on the field. Your support and encouragement reinforces in OUR students that their efforts both in and out of the classroom do hold value to our community...we take PRIDE in these efforts for ALL of our students. Bring your families out to SI to enjoy great weather and a great game!
St. Francis currently sits at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in WCAL play. They boast a power running game and a stingy defense. It will be the usual SI v St. Francis battle that we have come to know in the past number of years.
The football game tomorrow will also give us an opportunity to celebrate and recognize our 1967 WCAL Football Champion team. We will have many of the team members of 1967 present to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this great group of Ignatians.
In the inaugural year of the WCAL, St. Ignatius went undefeated in league play (6-0) on to a 9-1 overall record. They played with the Pride and Class that has always defined our school and program. To the surprise of many outside of our SI community, SI defeated many top teams in Northern California that had formed the new league. To those within the halls of SI, the team had met the expectation we had come to know - the tradition of hard work, a relentless competitive spirit and the selfless concept of givng all of themsleves to their teammates.
Check out the display case across from our Principal's office (outside room 103) that honors this great group. Thank you to Bob Vergara for putting that together.
Also at the football game tomorrow, we will kick off Breat Cancer Awareness month. Cancer has touched all of our lives either directly or indirectly. To that end, our varsity team will wear PINK wrist bands to honor those who currently fight or have fought their battle against cancer, specifically breast cancer. We also take the time honor and remember those who relentlessly fought, but ultimately lost the battle.
We have the opportunity to come together to support each other through the great causes and fundraisers that are hosted this month around our campus. Our game kicks off those efforts to continue to bring about awareness and ultimately cures of cancer.
We will see you ALL out at the 'Murph tomorrow.
Be Loud, Wear RED (or PINK) and GO CATS!
