  • Additional contributions to school and community.
  • Role model and inspiration/motivation to athletes, coaches, fellow teachers, administrators, parents, public.

Julius is no stranger to excellent recognition. In addition to this most recent honor, he was also named the CCS Honor Cross Country Coach in 1999, recognized by the Pacifica Hall of Fame and earned California Coach of the Year in 2004 for Girls Golf. In addition, two of SI Athletic Extraordinary Awards for Cross Country and Track & Field are named after him: The Julius Yap Award for girls' cross country and track & field; both awards are the highest recognition in both those programs.

The CCS press release noted the following: "Coach Yap has been a huge part of campus life at St. Ignatius for nearly 40 years. He has been a social studies teacher, part of the retreat program, and a coach of many sports. Always one to help where needed, Coach Yap's work ethic is tireless and his commitment to St. Ignatius is exemplary. His athletes would define him as fair, understanding, challenging, positive, and committed. He understands what each team member needs and works to build a team based on each member's strengths. Although Coach Yap has lead his teams to many wins and championships, he never defines success in terms of wins and losses. His focus is on the development of studentathletes and forming teams who are both competitive and respectful of their coaches, officials, and the sport."

Congratulations to Julius and to his wife, Lori, who has been so supportive of his nearly 40 years of teaching & coaching.
