Andrew McCarthy was born in San Francisco to Andrew Jeremiah McCarthy and Kathleen Mary McCarthy. He passed away peacefully at his home in Burlingame with his wife, Marge, and son, Brian, at his side on May 29, 2017.

Andy was a loving and devoted husband to Marge, his wife of fifty-six years, the proud father of Stephen and Brian, and proud grandfather of Kelsey, Kendall and Connor McCarthy, children of Steven and Mary McCarthy.

Andy is survived by his twin sister, Kathleen, (Sister Kathleen Mary, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet) and his older sister Eleanor.

He was a lifelong lover of all that is Irish, Catholic, and family. This was nourished as he attended Star of the Sea Grammar School, St. Ignatius High School (class of '51) and University of San Francisco. He interrupted his studies while as USF to serve in the U.S. Army. There he was trained as a medic and was sent to Korea where he tended the injured as they were brought to the hospital.

After he returned from his tour of duty he went to work in the business world in San Francisco. After ten years in business, Andy decided to become a teacher. He returned to USF as a full time student and received his Bachelor of Science Degree and a Secondary Teaching Degree.

Andy began his teaching career with the Jefferson High School District in 1967. He was a teacher at Oceana High School, Vice Principal at Westmoor High School, and Principal at Terra Nova High School. He ended his career as Director of Adult Education with his retirement in 2002.

Andy was an active and proud member of AA for over forty years. His gratitude and appreciation of this program was immense. He made life-long friends and was a supportive and dedicated counselor to anyone that needed his help.

Andy loved people, parties, music and the wonderful times spent at our vacation home in Kelseyville. His faith in God's goodness was real and active. May we remember Andy by cherishing the goodness of others and God's loving presence every day.
