Edgar V. Nolan, MD passed peacefully in his home after a short illness. He was born and raised in San Francisco attending St. Cecilia Primary School, St. Ignatius High School (Class of 1940), and USF (Pre-Med Class of 1943). He graduated in 1947 from Creighton University Medical School on a US Army Scholarship. At Creighton he met the love of his life, Mary Belle Hess RN (pre-deceased 2013) who was studying Anesthesiology. After graduation, Edgar and Mary Belle made their home in San Francisco, later moving to Woodside, CA in 1973. Edgar served his country during the Korean War managing three hospitals in Germany.
Edgar was a physician, in San Francisco, for over 60 years. He was on staff at St. Joseph's, St. Mary's, and Mary's Help Hospital/Seton Medical Center where he served as Medical Staff Director (1960-1962), and Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit. He loved his medical practice and treated his patients like family. He was a rare physician who did not hesitate to visit his patients in their home when necessary. He was well known and highly respected in the medical community.
Edgar was quite the family man spending memorable weekends snow skiing, camping, water skiing, fishing and body-surfing at Thornton Beach. He was a die-hard 49'r fan.
Edgar was the beloved father of William, Elizabeth (James Amaral), Vincent (Meredith), Patrick (Bill Ellis), and Valerie (Martin Chavez). He was "Papa" to Erik Amaral Stewart (Christmas), Christine Amaral Davis (Matt with children Quinn and Shane), and Amber Nolan Espinosa (Alex with daughter Shiloh). He was pre-deceased by his parents, Edgar V Nolan Sr., and Lucille May Williams Nolan Ewers from San Francisco.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial Mass at St. Pius Church, Redwood City on Saturday July 1, at 11:00AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Woodside home. If you would like to honor his memory, please make a donation in his name to your favorite charity .
