Here are some tips for Junior Families:

Schedule time to visit local college fairs and college campuses

Visit:

NACAC

WACAC

and the student's prospective colleges

Communication is key!

Encourage your student to communicate with their counselors and teachers

Check grades on Powerschool and talking with teachers is critical.

Continue to encourage your child to speak with her/his teachers, particularly when help is needed

It is check in time!

Check in with your child regularly: maintaining balance (academics, co-curricular activities, family/friends and sleep) in junior year is essential for any student.

Know the difference.

Keep in mind that parents and students are often at a different place when it comes to thinking about college. Set aside agreed upon time each week (or every other week) to discuss college planning and preparation.

Check the school calendar to plan college visit opportunities.

Beginning the search process with local campus visits (Bay Area) is one suggestion toget started.

Discuss the available test dates and consider the calendar to plan accordingly.

Familiarize yourself with standardized testing options for your child.

Prospective College Art students

should begin developing their art portfolios
and speak with their prospective art college/programs about their requirements.

Parent Interest Inventory

Start on it sooner versus late.  The student must upload the documents onto their Journal section.
