What is the Auction?

The Auction is SI’s largest annual social event and the biggest school fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund.

 

Why do we need the auction?

The funds raised from the auction are crucial to the mission of SI. In keeping with the vision of St. Ignatius to make education accessible to all students, SI provides additional financial aid for approximately 1 in 5 students.  The proceeds from auction make it possible for those students who would otherwise be unable to attend SI do so. It is because of the auction that SI is able to keep tuition within the reach of so many young men and women deserving of the transformative power of a Jesuit education.

Who participates in the auction?

The entire SI community—including current and past parents, students and alumni, faculty and staff—join in support of the auction. There are many different ways to be a part of this tremendous effort.  (See How Can I Participate?)

When is the auction?

The event usually takes place at the beginning of March.  This year, the auction will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

What happens at the auction?

The evening begins with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres served in the Cowell Gym. Guests are invited to bid on the online items, buy raffle tickets, and bid on gourmet wines that can be enjoyed that night! The party then moves over to the specially decorated McCullough Gym where a gourmet dinner is served during the big excitement of the night: the nail-biting, heart-thumping Live Auction! After the Live Auction, the party continues with live music and dancing. Each year has a different theme and attendees are encouraged to dress in themed attire. 

What happens before the auction?

The auction season—the period of time it takes to prepare and organize for the event—begins in January. Over the following weeks, auction items are solicited in a series of Gift Gathering Parties hosted by generous SI families across the Bay area. Back at the office, volunteers work tirelessly to prepare for the big event. We have volunteer teams in sponsorships, advertising, gift procurement, marketing, catalog, event set-up/clean-up and production. We are always looking for volunteers; anyone who is willing to lend a helping hand is welcome.
