We are excited to be using the PowerSchool student information system at St. Ignatius College Preparatory. With the aim of facilitating and improving communication between home and school, PowerSchool will allow students and parents to view student progress by providing access to attendance records as well as assignments and grades. The system also provides students’ Grade History and GPA information as well. Because it is web-based, it can be used by both Mac and PC platforms; you may access the PowerSchool Public Portal from any computer with an Internet connection.
It is our expectation that students will take responsibility for their grades and act as self-advocates who effectively communicate with their teachers. As such, if your child has a question about her status in the class, encourage her to speak with her teacher. If you have a question about a score, ask your child. Teachers are always happy to speak with parents if any questions or concerns remain.
Scores may be posted on PowerSchool at anytime during the term, but teachers are required to enter scores at least every two weeks. We will record student grades in PowerSchool at our Mid-quarter, Midterm, and Semester Grade Report dates. However, this record is a progress report, and only semester grades are posted on the student's transcript. Our first mandatory reporting date is the mid-quarter reporting date, and after that date you should see a course grade and list of assignments for every class. At that time it is important to remember that we are very early in the semester; students should look at the scores not as indicative of their final grade in the course, but as a progress report that reflects their current status in the class.
To access your child’s account, you will need a User Name and Password. You can set up your single sign-on account using your child's 6-digit user name and password that was mailed home at the beginning of the year.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
