They support the Jesuit philosophy of cura personalis and cura communis, caring for the individual and maintaining positive, respectful relationships with all members of the community. They also support Jesuit commitment to a faith that does justice.
They meet the needs of students of differing backgrounds and abilities and encouraging students to be risk-takers who learn from their mistakes. They also model and encourage an enthusiastic desire for lifelong learning.
They are also well prepared and engage in ongoing professional development. Nearly 100 hold masters degrees, and another five have earned their doctoral degrees.

Ms. Shannon Vanderpol
MA, Theological Ethics, Graduate Theological Union 2005
I grew up in Orinda, California and went to Gonzaga University, where I studied Political Theology and Pre-Law, while rowing crew for the Zags. Blessed with phenomenal mentors in the Theology and Philosophy departments, I developed an abiding appreciation for theology alive in the world, and began to seek ways to be involved in that transformative work. After some time in Europe and Kenya, I returned home to earn my Master's degree from the Graduate Theological Union.
This being my 10th year teaching at SI, I have a deep love for both the students and for this community.
