Compass Campaign: Scholarship Endowment

The goal of this part of the Compass Campaign is to increase SI's Scholarship Endowment Fund to $100 million by 2020 in order to provide $5 million annually in tuition assistance. As of December 2016, the Scholarship Endowment Fund had $70 million and is providing $2.8 million of the $4 million needed for the 2016-2017 school year. Providing access to a Jesuit education to families across the economic spectrum has been part of Jesuit schools worldwide since Ignatius of Loyola opened the first school in Messina, Italy in 1548. A strong endowment is vital to SI's future financial health and to forming young men and women to be leaders as it provides a perpetual stream of revenue for tuition assistance.

Annual Fund this year.

Current Status

  • In the current 2016–2017 school year, 22% of the SI student body will receive $3.9 million in financial aid.
  • Of the $3.9 million, $2.8 million comes from the existing Scholarship Endowment Fund, and SI makes up the difference by covering the $1,100,000 shortfall from Annual Fund donations.
  • SI’s 2016–2017 tuition is $21,290. The average student’s financial assistance is $11,500.
It doesn’t take a huge donation to have a big impact. When taken together, gifts to SI’s Annual Fund, whether $25 or $25,000, create one of the school’s most significant sources of support. Because Annual Fund gifts are typically unrestricted, they can be directed to areas with the greatest need — and have the greatest potential for impact.
