South Pacific also won six other Tonys including Best Revival of a Musical. This is the third consecutive best director nomination for Bart and his first time receiving best director honors. Intiman Theatre in Seattle, where he is the artistic director won the Tony last year for the best regional theatre in the U.S. Congratulations Bart!

Vince Pace's movie broke all box office records for Superbowl weekend with the release of Hannah Montana 3D. PACE designed the technology with Director James Cameron and worked with Disney to shoot the concert and provide production services. He also served as Executive Producer on the project. With only 683 screen, the film took in more than $31 million on the weekend making it the highest grossing film ever released on that weekend. He used the same technology to shoot U2 two years ago where for the first time a 3D camera was used on a cable cam system to fly over a crowd of 60,000 fans.

Leo McCarthy served as Lt. Governor of California and as Speaker of the California Assembly; he is survived by his wife, Jackie, and their children, Sharon, Conna, Adam and Niall and 11 grandchildren. Here is the Chronicle's tribute to Leo, who was scheduled in several weeks to receive SI's highest honor to a graduate — the Christ the King Award. The award will be presented posthumously to his family.

The links are subscription only, but NorCalPreps.com had this to say about Matt: OL Matt Summers-Gavin, St. Ignatius Summers-Gavin is the top rated prospect in Northern California and his play this past season was instrumental in a 10-2-1 record and the school's first CCS title since 1967. The 6-foot-5, 271 pound lineman was named to both the All-Metro and All-CCS first-teams and will see his next football action on January 6 in San Antonio, Texas at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. CalHi Sports had this to say: OL – Matt Summers-Gavin (St. Ignatius, San Francisco) 6-5, 280, Sr. The mammoth-sized Summers-Gavin helped the St. Ignatius offense average nearly 300 yards per game on its way to an 9-2-1 season record. With that also came the school's first West Catholic Athletic League regular season title since 1967 after it tied for first with Serra of San Mateo. With Summers-Gavin's dominance clear in every game, the Wildcats also won their first CIF Central Coast Section title, which came in Division III. Before Brandon Carswell came on late for Milpitas, it was thought that Summers-Gavin or Fred Koloto might be the CCS player of the year even though both are linemen. Summers-Gavin also has been the highest-ranked college prospect in the Bay Area. He was a prime target of Notre Dame, but recently gave a verbal commitment to Cal.

10/04/2006 - Freshman Stewart Goosens completes Alcatraz swim.
On Sept. 30, SI freshman Stewart Goossens, (brother of Scott Goosens SI 2006), successfully completed the Alcatraz to San Francisco Invitational Swim. The event was attended by more than 700 competitors from around the world. Stewart competed as a “skin swimmer” (no wetsuit) and completed the open water course in 35 minutes which placed him in the top 10% of all adults who completed the event. This result was achieved after six months of dedicated training.

09/20/2006 - Two former SI students killed over the weekend.
Classmates Zachary Roche-Balsam (19), who attended SI in his freshman year, and Boris Albinder (SI 2005) were killed in separate incidents over the weekend. We extend our condolences and ask you to pray for the families of these two young men whose lives ended far too soon. Services are Sept. 20 at 2 p.m., Hills of Eternity, 1301 El Camino Real, in Colma for Boris. For Zachary, the rosary vigil is Sept. 21 at 7 pm, McAvoy O'Hara Mortuary, 4545 Geary at 10th Ave., and the funeral is Sept. 22 at St. Dominic's Church, 2390 Bush Street at noon.

09/18/2006 - Soph Matt Kolhede wins Battle of the Bands.
Sophomore Matt Kolhede and his Bisohp O'Dowd bandmates from Stop the Malarky won the Battle of the Bands competition on Sept. 9 in the East Bay, winning equipment, money and the right to play at the "Rockin Blues at the Lake" concert, featuring Jefferson Starship.
09/11/2006 - The Marin IJ reports on an archeological expedition by Don Dana (SI 1966).
Don Dana, an executive vice president with Wells Fargo Bank, has just returned from an expedition in Siberia, traveling by "skin boat" up the east coast of Russia, trying to prove that ancient tribes could have migrated from Russia to Alaska across the Bering Strait by boat.

09/03/2006 - Capt. Patrick Faye (SI 1994), an Annapolis grad with the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, will be returning to Iraq for his fourth tour of duty.
Also, Captain Jay Valario, a pilot and Patrick's classmate, will be returning to Iraq as well.

08/30/2006 - SI senior and sophomore win ATA nationals tennis titles.
Two students from SI won titles in the recently concluded American Tennis Association Nationals held in San Diego. Sophomore Natalie Dillon won first place for the girls 16's in the singles and doubles division and senior Lorenzo Cabrera placed 3rd in the boys 18's and captured the doubles 18's championship title as well.
