Dear Parents and Class of 2013,
Each year St. Ignatius offers students time for reflection designed to invite them to experience personal and spiritual growth. At each class level, the Campus Ministry program has a different theme that builds to the next year and, ultimately, to the Senior Kairos retreat experience.
In the freshman year, our retreat theme is "Roots: Spirit of St. Ignatius and Friends." We plan to introduce our freshmen to some of the philosophy behind Jesuit education. More specifically, the retreat will be built around the Jesuit motto of ad majorem Dei gloriam (AMDG), which is a Latin term that means "for the greater glory of God" and also around the school goal of forming "men and women with and for others." It is our hope that by the time our students graduate from SI, they will have incorporated these themes into their daily lives.
This day of reflection is led by our seniors who are members of InSIgnis and is supervised by faculty members. One of our aims is for the freshmen to get to know themselves and their classmates. The day is also an opportunity to learn what it means to belong to an Ignatian Community.
At the end of the day your son or daughter will be given an envelope for you containing a DVD and letter of welcome from our Adult Spirituality team. We hope that you will use this opportunity to encounter the life and spirit of St. Ignatius and have entry into the spirituality of the school. Please take this opportunity to reflect on your own traditions and spirituality, and encourage your student to explore their questions with you and the school during their high school career.
The Frosh Day of Reflection will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. in classrooms on the first floor and end by 3:15 after the closing prayer service. All retreat activities will take place on the school grounds and Campus Ministry will provide lunch. All students are expected to participate in the Frosh Day of Reflection. Any requests for exceptions must be addressed to and approved by the Principal, Mr. Patrick Ruff.
