Richard "Dick" Aloysius Valentine '43

Richard "Dick" Aloysius Valentine November 11, 1925 - January 28, 2008 Died suddenly Monday, January 28th in Little Rock, AR, at the age of 82. A native of San Francisco, he graduated from St. Ignatius High School and at age 17 entered the University of San Francisco, simply waiting to volunteer for the Navy but entered the California Maritime Academy instead. He graduated as a deck officer with a reserve commission in the Navy. He returned to USF to complete his business education. He joined the Pennzoil Products Company immediately and remained for 41 years, attaining the position of president during the final five years in Houston. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret "Peggy" Valentine; four children, Donna Valentine Wollenhaupt, Deb-ra Valentine, Denise Valentine Laiosa and Matthew Valentine (Jill); two grandchildren, Morgan Huguet and Rachel Laiosa; brother, Robert Valentine; sister, Elena Corbett and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Monday, Feb. 4th, 5-8PM at Darling and Fischer, 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5th, 11AM at Sacred Heart Church, 13716 Saratoga Ave., and burial will follow immediately at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. A reception will be held at La Mere Michelle, 14467 Big Basin Way, Saratoga. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the St. Ignatius Richard Valentine Scholarship Fund, 2001 37th Ave., SF, CA 94116.???Gregory S. Gillard 1937 - 2008 Of Burlingame, CA, passed away on Jan. 28, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Greg was the first-born son of John and Frances LeMoyne Moloughney Gillard of San Francisco and grew up in Noe Valley. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School, served in the US Marine Corps, and attended USF. He retired from United Parcel Service in 1983 after 25 years. Greg was a loyal, strong union man and teamster. He again retired from a second career in 2001 after 18 years with SF City and County Water Dept. in Millbrae, CA. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Joan Cardarelli Gillard; daughter, Laura M. (Jim) Blue; adoring granddaughter, Gina S. Blue, all of Burlingame, CA; mother and father-in-law, Raoul and Santina Cobar, Burlingame, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Charlene Cardarelli of Sutter Creek, CA; one sister, Calista G. (Carl) Batcharie of Amber, NY; nieces, Sarah (Tom) Corbett, Allison (Bob) Ziober, Rebekah (Ron) Reali; one nephew, Seth Batcharie and three brothers. Greg (Grumpy) will be missed by all his many friends from childhood, work, Fiddlers, neighbors, and the links. Joanie and Laura would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Sharon and Uncle Bud. Memorial Mass will be held on Fri., Feb. 8, 2008, 12pm at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Dr, Burlingame, CA.
