James R. "Jim" Weinberger, Sr '33
James R. "Jim" Weinberger, Sr. Jim was born in Alameda to Mary and Paul Weinberger. He passed away on Feb. 13, 2008. He was 92. A graduate of Saint Ignatius in San Francisco, and a resident at the Carlton Plaza in San Leandro. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Evelyn. He is survived by son, Jim Jr.; daughter, Diana Rodriguez; brothers, Cyril and AI; sister, Florence Bossu; and grandchildren, Erik Lough, Alison Lough, and Kelly Weinberger. Jim loved the sea. As a purser with American President Lines (APL) he sailed the oceans of the world. During World War II he served in the Navy and helped deliver many Allied troops to both war fronts, often in enemy waters. After retiring from the shipping company he enjoyed a second career as a travel agent and tour director. He enjoyed taking senior groups on tours to Alaska, Switzerland, and other exotic places. As a member of the Railroad Historical Society many of his tours were aboard trains. He was also an active member of the SKAL Travel Association. Jim was very outgoing and made friends everywhere he went. He will be missed by his family and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at Saint Leander Church, San Leandro beginning at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to the Saint Leander Church.
