Fr. Joseph P. O'Reilly '30
Father Joseph P. O'Reilly January 7, 2008 Born March 27, 1912 in San Francisco. Son of the late Patrick and Catherine O'Reilly; brother of the late Catherine Williams and Elizabeth Tainter; brother-in-law of the late Forrest Williams and George Tainter. Father Joe is survived by nieces, Anne (Philip) O'Rourke and Kateri Cavin; nephews, Joseph (Bonnie) Tainter and Patrick (Lilian) Tainter; grand-nephews, Paul Cavin, Emmet Tainter, David Tainter and Stephen Tainter; grand-nieces, Katherine (Anthony) Cardinalli and Malaika O'Rourke and Stephanie O'Rourke; great-grand-niece, Aubrey Cavin; great-grand-nephews, Kyler Cavin, Joseph Cardinalli and Kenneth Cardinalli. Also survived by numerous cousins including Dan O'Connell, Kevin O'Connell and Denise Barbarino and their families. Father Joe was a graduate of Saint Ignatius High School, class of 1930 and Saint Mary's College where he received his B.A. in economics in 1934. He then entered Saint Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park and was ordained to the priesthood on June 3,1939. Following his ordination, Father Joe ministered at Mission Dolores Church, Saint Philip the Apostle Church, Our Lady of the Pillar Church and Saint Margaret Mary Church in Oakland. He served as assistant director of cemeteries for the Archdiocese for 14 years, beginning in 1946. He was then appointed Pastor of Saint Anthony Church in Menlo Park, Pastor of Saint Agnes Church and Pastor of Saint Stephen Church, where he was assigned from 1972 through 1987. Following his retirement, he remained in residence at Saint Stephen Parish until his move to nearby Alma Via of San Francisco in 2004. Friends may visit Thursday, January 10, from 2:00-4:00pm, at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City and are invited to visit after 7:00pm at Saint Stephen Church, 601 Eucalyptus Drive, San Francisco. The Vigil Service will begin at 7:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 11, 10:30am at Saint Stephen Church. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
