David "Dave" Lawrence Newsom '69
David "Dave" Lawrence Newsom November 13, 1951 - December 13, 2007 After a long courageous struggle, Dave passed away surrounded by his loving family. Son of Anne Updike Newsom and the late Dr. William A. Newsom, Dave was a fifth generation San Franciscan and a Mayflower descendant. He was educated at St. Brendan's Grammar School, St. Ignatius High School, City College and S.F. State University. He earned a degree in biology (with emphasis in ichthyology), and journeyed from Alaska to Mexico in search of the greatest wildlife catch. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and spent much of his time planning his next great adventure. His proudest moment as an outdoorsman was when he broke a Boone and Crockett Club record for a big game catch in Northern California: a prized Tule Elk. Dave was a proud member of Local 38 Plumber's Union. He also was known by family and friends as the premiere "Mr. Fix It" who was always willing to lend a hand with almost any repair request. Dave's love of family came above all else. He is survived by his loving mother Anne; his siblings and their spouses, Bill (Christine), Wendy, Rob (Joanne), Laura, Mark (Cathy), Mary (Roger) Boucher, Sarah (John) Healy, Phil (Peggy); his nieces and nephews, Joanna, Peter, Emily, Lucera (Nova), Beth (Chris), James (Wendy), Joseph, Rob Jr. (Jen), Chrissy, Dan, Katie, Marie, Roger, Billy, Patrick, Ali, Angelina, Jack, and Mariclare; his grand nieces Keely and Tara. His is also survived by his dear aunt Muriel Blak, many caring cousins and faithful friends. Dave's family would like to extend special thanks to all of his caregivers at CPMC for their tremendous care and compassion. Friends may visit Sunday after 2PM and attend a Vigil Service at 3:30PM at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11AM at St. Gregory Church, 2715 Hacienda, San Mateo. Private Committal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hydrocephalus Association, 870 Market St. #705, S.F. 94102 or Ducks Unlimited, Inc., Memorial Contributions, 1 Waterfowl Wy, Memphis, TN 38120.
