Carlos Tapia '75
May 13, 2008
Carlos "Lalo" Tapia Carlos "Lalo" Tapia was taken from us suddenly and unexpectedly on May 13, 2008. Lalo joins his grandparents, Eduardo and Viviana Tapia, Diega Ortiz and Ernesto Lacunza; and his mother Alice Gonzalez. He is survived by his father, ArtTapia and stepmother, Andrea Tapia, as well as his siblings, Albert, Ed, Rick, Maria, Michelle, Marcos, John and Adam as will and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A natural athlete and gifted musician, Lalo dazzled many early in his life with his athletic prowess on the basketball court and baseball diamond, as well as from behind the drum kit. Born and raised in San Francisco, Lalo was a fixture in his neighborhood greeting old friends and making new with his down to earth disposition, sly wit, and gentlemanly manner. After a near-miraculous recovery from serious health issues last summer, our brother was given back to us for a short time before finally being called home. As Lalo would sometimes wax poetically, "American Beauty let Spanish wail last night...." Friends may visit on Sunday after 3:00 PM and are invited to attend the Vigil also on Sunday at 7:30 PM and the Funeral Service on Monday at 9:30 AM at the chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission St., SF. Committal to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to SF Community Clubhouse, 134 Golden Gate Ave., SF, CA 94102 (415) 673-5700. Online condolences may be offered at www.vmpandco.com
