Feb 19, 2008

Calvin Dexter Bussi February 13, 1941 - February 19, 2008 Age 67, passed away suddenly in his home Tue, Feb. 19 from a heart attack. Calvin Dexter Bussi, affectionately called "Skip" or "Skipper," was much loved. There is no doubt he was a dignified man of great compassion and strength. He is survived by his wife Janet Ann Bussi; his daughter Rochelle Colette Bussi-Battista and son-in-law, William Battista; sister-in-law, Colette Camozzi; niece, Allison (Manuel Tamayo) Cain; nephews, Michael Camozzi, Stephen (Myrna) Camozzi and Tom Camozzi and close cousins, LeRoy (Noreen) Gelsi-Mediot, Mike (Sue) Givens, and Daniel (Kelly) Givens. Calvin's father, Fernando Bussi, played an important role in the Teamsters and his mother, Helen Bussi benefited from the fruits of her hard work in real estate at a time when women were not accepted in the field. Calvin came from a long line of strong, but loving individuals whose beliefs were honesty and hard work. This shaped his education, career, and life style. Calvin grew up in the Italian North Beach district in his native city of San Francisco. He attended St. Brigit's Catholic Elementary School and graduated from St. Ignatius High School. As a devout Catholic it was only fitting he continue on to the University of San Francisco to receive his bachelor's degree and his law degree from the Jesuit institution that was well respected in his family. Calvin was vice president of the San Francisco Employers Council by his late 20s and went on to be a well known, successful labor negotiator and arbitrator for the food industry for 40 years in the Los Angeles area. Calvin, an exceptionally articulate, intelligent man, spoke for people who didn't have much of a voice. Calvin was a dedicated, loving, caring husband and exceptional father to his only daughter, Rochelle. He took great pride in her education and accomplishments. Upon retirement, Calvin and his wife, Janet moved back to the Bay Area to relax and enjoy the area that meant so much to them. His wife, Janet and his daughter, Rochelle, were very close. They were the light of his life, as he was their strength. His family and dear friends will sorely miss him, for he played such an important role in their lives and always remained a genuine honest man who never hesitated to help others. The Funeral will be held Thu., Feb. 28th, 10:45AM at St. Sebastian's Church, Greenbrae, CA. The family invites friends and all family members to sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits to capture important memories and create a fitting legacy for such a dignified man.
