Conrad John Odenthal '58

Conrad John Odenthal, St. Ignatius Class of 1958, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from cancer.  After graduating from  St. Ignatius, Mr. Odenthal went on to graduate from the University of San Francisco with a degree in Electronic Physics.  He worked as a CRT Design Engineer at Tektronix, Inc. in Beaverton, OR for 38 years where he was granted 14 U.S. patents for his inventions and designs of cathode ray tubes.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon Odenthal (maiden name, McKeon), six children, and five grandchildren.He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Charles Edward Odenthal (SI Class of 1960)

Thomas A. Mullaney '46

Thomas Anthony Mullaney Was born September 20, 1927 in San Francisco, the son of Kathleen Carroll and Thomas P. Mullaney, who preceded him in death. He passed away in the early morning of June 10, 2008 from pneumonia. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vivian Arend; son, Martin, his wife Cecile and their son Kyle; son, Patrick and his children Alex, Kathleen, Michael and Serabeth; daughter, Mary Molly and her daughter Marilyn; daughter, Susan; and brother, Kevin. Tom retired in 1992 from the City and County of San Francisco Engineering Bureau, after 38 years of service. He attended Parkside, St. Cecilia and St. James Elementary Schools. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School and served in the army in the Aleutian Islands before graduating from Santa Clara University in 1951 with a BCE. He was lifetime member of ASCE, a member of the United Irish Cultural Center, United for Life and Hibernian Newman Club. He wrote hundreds of letters to foreign governments on behalf of political prisoners during a 15-year membership in Amnesty International. He donated over 10 gallons of blood to the Irwin Memorial Blood Bank. Tom was a long time member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served as president of the St. Emydius Conference during which time he made many home visits to serve those in need. He was a board member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, San Francisco Council; a charter member of Serra Club of the Golden Gate, now Serra Club of San Francisco; a board member of Serra International; a Red Cross volunteer and was active in NERT. On call for Red Cross he volunteered many nights to help people displaced by fires. He was a long-time volunteer for Handicapables; an alumni of Old St. Mary's Center who enjoyed the golf outings of their Whacker group; a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem; an active parishioner of St. Emydius Church. In his youth he was a Boy Scout. He had a sly sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family is grateful for the diligent care received from many doctors and nurses at Kaiser Permanente, San Francisco, and Lawton Healthcare Center. Friends may visit Thursday after 5:30pm and are invited to attend a Rosary Service, 6:30pm at St. Emydius Church, 286 Ashton Ave., SF. A requiem Mass at St. Emydius Church on Friday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 425 Fourth St., SF, CA 94107-9733.

John P. Crowley '73

John Parnell Crowley September 9, 1955 - May 31, 2008 At home in the City of Saint Francis surrounded by his loving family. Cherished husband of Charlene and devoted father of Christopher and James. Predeceased by parents, John F. and Geraldine Crowley and sister, Mary Frances Williams (Bill). Beloved brother of Kelly Fuller (Chuck), Joseph Crowley (Mary), Tara Chase (Steve) and F.X. Crowley (Nancy). Affectionate son-in-law of Bill and Jeanie Henneberry. Adored brother-in-law of Dennis Henneberry (Leonora), Diane McLaughlin (Michael), Leslie McNaughton (Kevin); uncle of numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. John was a loyal friend who enjoyed the constant support and friendship of many through his final day. He lived a life of adventures - he embarks on his greatest adventure. John was a 1973 graduate of St. Ignatius College Preparatory, captain of the SI Varsity football team, 1972-73, and received his bachelor of arts degree from the UC Riverside in 1977. John cut his chops in the labor movement with the Sailors Union of the Pacific. He was a counselor with the San Francisco Youth Guidance Center, an assistant power plant operator with PG&E and a member of Sprinkler Fitters Local UA 483, the last nine years serving as business representative. John had a lifelong commitment to helping all working people. He was a past member of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission Employment Committee, a director of the Cobb Mountain Mutual Water Company, a board member of the Loch Lomond Property Owners Association, a Little League coach and member of the St. Brendan Men's Club. John also was a member of the Marin, San Mateo, SF and Sonoma Building Trade Councils. Carpe Diem! Friends may visit on Wednesday, June 4, after 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Ignatius Church, 650 Parker Ave. (at Fulton), SF. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery, All Saints Mausoleum. An educational fund has been established for John's sons.
