Magis at SI

We look forward to an exciting summer at Magis. Please note that Parent Orientation is Thursday, June 11th at 7:00 pm in the Carlin Commons. The Magis Program runs from June 15th -July 17th. The school day begins promptly at 8:15 am and typically ends at 3:00 pm.

Magis works with students who will be among the first members of their family to attend college, students from lower income communities and students whose backgrounds have traditionally been under-represented at St. Ignatius (SI). The middle school component of the program serves to prepare target middle school students for a college preparatory high school (preferably SI). For our high school students, we strive to provide socio-cultural support, positive adult mentoring and individual advocacy.

Our Vision

The Magis Program strives to provide comprehensive academic, social and cultural support for both middle school and high school students from underrepresented backgrounds, including students who will be the first in their family to go to college, low-income and/or traditionally under-represented at college preparatory high schools.

Our Students

Magis works primarily with low-income and first generation college bound students. Our students come from neighborhoods and backgrounds that have not been traditionally represented at St. Ignatius. The great majority of our students are students of color.

Our Programs

High School Support Programs provide socio-cultural support by way of affirmation and awareness programs collectively through affinity groups and through individual support and advocacy of students. In addition, a one-on-one college advising program will assist Magis juniors and seniors in preparing for the often overwhelming decision of picking the right college or university. Magis is also a diversity resource for the SI campus, which will include workshops, videos, training, roundtables and awareness programs for students, faculty and staff respectively.

Magis High School Trends

Middle School Enrichment Program is an academic enrichment program for motivated middle school students who live in low income neighborhoods of San Francisco and who will potentially be among the first members of their family to attend college. We provide a challenging and supportive environment to teach students the skills they will need to succeed in a college preparatory high school and to inspire them to prepare for high school and beyond. Students attend an annual summer academy, monthly winter phase meetings, and weekly homework centers. Eighth grade students receive high school counseling and assistance throughout the application process for private high schools.
