Primal Religions Final Synthesis

Credit: 50 Points

Please type, 1 1/2 spaced, 2-3 pgs, 700-1000 words

1. Choose any 2-3 concepts/themes from Huston Smith's chapter, Global Oneness videos, and/or Mr. Lynch's talk on Lakota Spirituality. Key concepts might include: animism (spirits in all things), totemism, tribal, local, oral, ancestor worship, "all my relations", one world - two components, role of rituals, sacred place/space, sacred time, shaman/medicine man/woman etc... Choosing only 2 concepts/themes may allow you to go deeper in your reflection & analysis.

2. After choosing the 2 or 3 concepts/themes, please write an essay explaining how these concepts are revealed in the primary sources you have read so far - Novak primary source reading, Global Oneness videos, Whale Rider & Mr. Lynch's talk. Be clear and precise in your writing.  You must use 3-5 quotes/references from Novak, Whale Rider, Mr. Lynch, or the Global Oneness videos in support of your writing.
You may also use Smith for quotes as well.

You need to reference at least 1 Novak selection, 1 Global Oneness Video and 1 aspect of Mr. Lynch's talk. If you missed his talk for any reason, then focus on Novak & Videos.

3 . Conclude by
answering honestly and sincerely - what wisdom do the primal cultures of the world offer us today in the 21st century? What can we learn from their traditions given our current world-view? What final insights/comments do you want to make about our study of indigenous peoples?

4. Please staple the Primal Relgion Rubric to the back of your essay.

5 Paragraph essay would work well here...Intro, 2-3 Concepts discussed (in 3 par.), Conclusion.

Remember, I am not looking for just concepts, those are important, I am looking for depth of understanding of the stories/experiences as they are presented by the Novak selections, Mr. Lynch & the videos . Let it sink in a little, before writing, and then, write from your head (concepts, organization, clarity) and heart (empathy, sensitivity, opennness).
