1) What were the key questions for Russell is his search for G-d/Truth? Briefly summarize his journey as explained in Ch. 1.

2) What is the metaparadigm that most science is dependent upon?

3) What is the shift Russell is calling for?

4) What questions do you have after reading the 1st two chapters?

Please remember to come to Orradre Chapel on Monday. Bring your From Science to God book and Wherever You Go There You Are. Also, please be prepared to turn 1 written homework from the last week that you prepared while reading the opening articles for the class.

  • Briefly Describe the 4 Spiritual Paradigms. Then, explain what Russell says about the Spiritual and Scientific paradigm coming together. - Ch. 8.
  • What is the Great Awakening referred to in Ch. 9? What do you think, is it possible, is it happening now, is it necessary for our survival as a species?

For 2nd meeting, please read Huston Smith's introduction in The World Religions textbook (the big one). Please read pgs. 6-15 and summarize on a sheet of paper his 7 main points, what the book is about and what it is not about?

For 4th meeting this week - Thurs - 1st, Fri - 6th, please complete your 1st set of Smith Questions for Primal Religions - the 2nd to last chapter in the Smith text. See the main page of the website for the link to Smith Questions. Please read the section in Smith and answer the questions. You may handwrite or type this.

For Monday,

Please read sections of Primal Religions chapter in Novak (The World's Wisdom - read a sampling under each heading), and answer 1st 3 questions, then choose 1 from each subheading, and any additional 2 for a total of 10 questions answered.  See the Novak Questions link, as this will make more sense to you looking at that. You do NOT have to type your questions, just make them neat and easy to read.  This is your chance to read primary sources from various indigenous cultures. Enjoy!

We will meet in Orradre Chapel on Monday, please bring Zinn & Novak. We will use both.

Mr. Haardt will be on Kairos this week. He will meet with 1st pd Mon & Tues in Orradre Chapel and 6th pd on Mon in Orradre. 6th pd is asked to report to Orradre Chapel on Thursday - to hear Mr. Lynch's talk on Lakota Spirituality, Sloane Viola will take attendance and take to the Dean's Office.

Due Monday, 9/29 is your first Final Synthesis Essay on Primal Religions. Please see main page of the website for the links as well. You are encouraged to work with your Hevruta partner on this for ideas and brainstorming. Your individual essay should of course be your own.

You are asked to look at the 4 video links to the right. They are each roughly 4 min in length, so it will take you about 15 min to view them. You are asked to include at least one quote/reference from these videos in your Final Synthesis. Please take the time to view them and experience first-hand the primal peoples of today.

Finally, you will all be given the opportunity to hear Mr. Patrick Lynch discuss Lakota Spirituality and his first-hand contact with Lakota people. Please take notes during his presentation as you will be expected to use parts of his talk in your final synthesis.

I will have some access to e-mail so if you have questions about the Final Synthesis, feel free to e-mail but I ask that you use your Hevruta partner first for any questions/clarification.

Please read the Hinduism section in Smith's World Religions and answer all 20 questions under the Smith Questions link.

Please save paper by using both sides.
